My Retirement Fund, from your estimates BT has around £50bln in copper assets, not forgetting the cost associated in extracting the old copper once Fibre makes it redundant.... yet the current Market Cap of BT stands at only £15.2bln, plus debt of c£19bln = £34.2bln..... This is only the valuation regarding one asset copper and NET debt.... Still a crazy market valuation of BT today. BT IMHO is worth at least 400p per share.

Now that would be an interesting project, and also more likely to justify the cost than HS2...how about it Boris?

Extracting the stuff is gonna be a hell of a lot cheaper than extracting virgin copper from even the worlds very best high grade ore mines!

BT themselves say, (and yes, I've checked that they really do mean this) they've 75 million miles of this stuff festooning the countryside.Ten pairs of copper cabling weighs around 132kg per mile. Which by the miracle of multiplication can be seen to be about 10 million tonnes of copper. Which, at current LME prices is around £50bn.

Sorry but all that copper buried in the wires wont be worth much. The copper is not load bearing it's very thin. Cost of recovery probably more than the copper is worth.
