I think all of the below comments by Hammond will remove the impass with Ofcom and the gov will have to make it appealing for BT to roll out at that rate...

"…and it will require industry to connect more than 2 million additional premises a year for the next seven years.

We won’t do that by government diktat.

We will do it by creating the conditions for the market to deliver…

…and we will use all the tools at the government’s disposal to ensure that target is met…

…so we must start thinking now about that switchover and how to sharpen the incentives for industry to move customers away from copper and on to fibre."

Once the city digests (or finishes their avocado on toast breakfast), I think maybe a steady move up starting over the next hour, on the speculation alone?

I guess this paragraph from the article suggests maybe the gov are going to chuck some money at it?

"The UK economy lags its neighbours and Philip Hammond said one way to make up the gap is to spend more on connectivity."

That is the kinda news which could flip this share on it's head, I wait with baited breath, maybe extra subsidy or raising the levels the fibre layers can charge?

toon - yes I like the second paragraph below from that article you posted :) ...

“This evening I will set a target to see full-fibre connections being available to 15 million premises, that’s the majority of homes and businesses, by 2025.”

Mr Hammond said the Government will not order business to hit the target, but instead is “creating the conditions for the market to deliver”.

'By 2022 the company (bt) will have spent around £5bn on sports rights.'

How long to make a profit on that investment?

I saw one of these the other day, I didn't know what it was. It's a great idea to replace old phone boxes - 21st century version and all that. Quite clever. If as they say nationwide cities rollout planned then they could be bigger than JCDecaux for billboard advertising ;)

Turned bullish after the figures, the market was disappointed. But they are doing the right things, cut cost, not increase dividend, but still 7.3% yield.Mobile mask division to be sold 1.5 billion roughly. But speculation will grow what will Deutsche Telekom do with their 14% stake. I see 225p short term. Should settle down around 250p coming months. You know I was the biggest bear from 435p to 203p. Now Bull.
