27/7/2018 13:40 | Hi Knowing - just out of interest did you at the time let us know you had sold at 231p and then when you bought back in at 214.5p? Apologies in advance if you did! | toon1966
27/7/2018 13:33 | Toon. I am sure I have mentioned this one before as an example, but look at this deal BT won earlier this year to provide a pan-European service to Eurocontrol - the EU air traffic control group, they won this largely because of their global presence and their highly secure private networks and overlaid services. You can bet your bottom dollar that the EU didn't want to award the contract to BT, but they had to because of their capabilities. “With air traffic expected to double in the years ahead, the need for secure and highly reliable communications has never been greater and of more importance. Many leading multinationals, such as members of the BT Radianz Cloud, the world’s largest secure networked financial markets community, already rely on BT to connect their critical global operations, people and data. The networking infrastructure we will put in place for the NewPENS community will ensure ultra-high levels of resilience and security for air traffic controllers to help them guide planes safely to their destinations” - Bas Burger, CEO Global Services, BT. I think BT will be a 500p share a few years time :) | hamhamham1
27/7/2018 13:17 | So sold at 231 bought back at 214.5 so quite happy now waiting for the divi. Been adding to my FOOT too as it's only just started to recover | knowing
27/7/2018 12:47 | Toon. I think they (BT) in a lot of the countries to provide a single network partner to global and some local businesses. I am not a big fan of being in a load of countries with the offer of mobile and broadband. Broadband is getting more and more regulated. Mobile means big 5G licence costs coming (local govs use them as a cash cow), plus the need for investing in the associated fibre backhaul, and more and more competition will drive prices down. That could be Vodafone's undoing maybe. | hamhamham1
27/7/2018 12:46 | BT Profit Beat, Regulatory Reset Smooth Path for Next CEO | dmf
27/7/2018 12:35 | Yes Ham, but it's what you're doing in those countries that counts. Both DT and Telefonica are larger companies than BT so they aren't doing too badly. Global Services has been a real drag on BT for a number of years and this would not go unnoticed by potential suitors. | toon1966
27/7/2018 11:50 | Toon, if you look at DT and Telefonica, they operate in a lot less countries than BT. | hamhamham1
27/7/2018 11:49 | I think a foreign t/o of BT would be blocked anyway.Total non starter, imo. A merger of equals (ish) with someone , maybe. | chiefbrody
27/7/2018 11:42 | Toon. I do not necessarily think they will make a bid, was just replying to your question as to why would they bid? But currently BT are valued at $30bn and that's about 1/8th of the current value of AT&T. I guess it's just a case of if they ever were interested then now is a good time. Cash is cheap and easy at the moment, especially in the US. | hamhamham1
27/7/2018 11:37 | and AT&T don't? What about Orange or DT or Telefonica? To name but a few.... | toon1966
27/7/2018 11:29 | Toon. BT Global Services operates in 180 countries. If you have global businesses as clients, it's good to be a global supplier. | hamhamham1
27/7/2018 11:27 | Ham - a 'one' country strategy makes no sense. If they bought BT would then then look at other telecoms companies across Europe? | toon1966
27/7/2018 11:27 | ham Not badmouthing, we have bears and bulls, just waiting for ex div to short. Already sold my long at 232p two weeks ago, trading different from investing. Like I said don't take it personally. You still have only half the followers than me, lol. | montyhedge
27/7/2018 11:26 | Toon. Yep saw it but read this, so wasn't too worried... Laith Khalaf, senior analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, said: "The accounting deficit tells us more about bond yields than it does pension obligations, and has no effect on cash flows, but clearly this slip doesn't exactly help to inspire confidence." | hamhamham1
27/7/2018 11:23 | Monty, I am happy here, I am invested here, I just can't fathom the reasoning behind badmouthing of share boards on which you are not invested. Let's just let it go and you focus maybe on your trades and I focus on my investments? | hamhamham1
27/7/2018 11:22 | In the dustbin. | hvs
27/7/2018 11:20 | Anyone spot this "BT blames human error for £500m pensions accounting gaffe" - | toon1966
27/7/2018 11:20 | Toon. I guess if the want the Global Services side to increase their worldwide business offerings there is a case? Plus they could float the Openreach? Then either increase their broadband retail and mobile exposure here, or sell bits off? I don't think that they would necessarily be potential buyers, but they are big enough to raise the cash if they wanted to. But who knows? 'Consolidation' seems to be the 21 century buzz word. | hamhamham1
27/7/2018 11:17 | Forgot your a long term investor, not a trader. Perhaps we should have a thread, BT - Traders thread, no investors allowed, they get upset to quickly. | montyhedge
27/7/2018 11:15 | Monty, all shares drop ex-divi, it's not like I'm going to sell on that day and realise the ex-divi drop? It's in the bank and I'll watch the share price recover. | hamhamham1
27/7/2018 11:15 | I know AT&T are big but it does not mean they would acquire BT. What is the strategic rationale given BT are primarily a UK player? | toon1966
27/7/2018 11:13 | Yes 10.55p income but I reckon 12p capital loss when ex div. | montyhedge
27/7/2018 11:11 | Monty. Whereas you are a whopping 3%? (max) up on switching out of BT and into IAG? I will get that back (and more) with the divi in a week or so. | hamhamham1
27/7/2018 11:09 | Toon. AT&T certainly are big, $232bn market cap. Quite good network services comparison chart here. | hamhamham1
27/7/2018 11:08 | ham Make a lot of money for a two year old, lol. You should be happy BT back to where they were two weeks ago. | montyhedge |
