To me, IMB and BATS are no brainers, the market will turn and these stocks will become like gold dust at some point, they could rise and rise when the market goes down, for sure

as Buffet says ... "Only when the tide goes out do you discover who's been swimming naked" ... and that's a lot of fund managers chasing 'growth' stocks with no earnings

Tobacco stocks are so cheap and the profits (not to mention the growing divis) are quite mind blowing compared to anything else in the FTSE 100

Are tobacco stocks back on the menu for fund managers?
It's never too late for them to wake up and smell the coffee!

The rise may be due to Powell continuing as head of the Fed in the US. The market in general likes it

Let the lovies fight over ethical investments. They should know by now what happens when large amounts of capital chase a lower base of assets. Leave them to it, they'll find out soon enough.

Actually on an ESG rating BAT performs very well. In fact it is one of the best.

it's a worry if you need access to your capital in the next 3-5 years or are unable to ride out share price ups and downs. if the company start buying back stock then you celebrate a low share price. BAT could buy out about 11% of their shareholders who want to sell out each year using free cash flow, or about 3% if they continued dividends at the current rate.

Thats a bit worrying. If other fund managers follow that path could be an issue. It doesn't say how many shares but 5.5% of the fund is significant. Could that have been the 29m share trade mentioned by Linton5?

Schroder’s Noffke gives up BAT as healthy income quest burns

Improving dividend prospects have underpinned a re-rating of Schroder Income Growth (SCF) with fund manager Sue Noffke responding to investors’ increasing ethical concerns by ditching former income stalwart British American Tobacco (BATS).

......ditched British American Tobacco (BATS), a 5.5% position last year, which she said ‘served the portfolio well in the early phase of the pandemic from a capital and income perspective’.

‘In the longer-term, we struggle to envisage a re-rating of the shares against a backdrop of greater focus on environmental, social, and governance factors by investors, or a take-private solution given the size of the company and its level of indebtedness,’ she said.

Possible mapping across from IMB’s results, announced yesterday (which, despite all the willy waving, were a bit anaemic)?

Back below 2600. It looked a if it had broken free of 2600. Is this a temporary blip or is it heading back to 2500

Spring Mountain is based in the Cayman Islands. Dart who is mentioned in dmore2's post is also in the Cayman Islands. Are they linked?
