12/11/2021 11:15 | Precious metal miners and tobacco could well be coming back in vogue judging from this week's action, with fund managers possibly preparing for a market meltdown .. it's coming and it's close I would say Defensive high divi portfolio ... that's it really with inflation raging GLA | topazfrenzy
11/11/2021 23:32 | gabster, i agree with your sentiments. if the company buy back shares, the undervaluation works to their advantage. and the great thing about tobacco is that even though they generate such vast amounts of cash, they tend to have very disciplined capital expenditure. i.e. no vanity projects like tesco USA, meaning all that cash finds it's way back to shareholders. it's very powerful. | m_kerr
11/11/2021 08:51 | Vuse ePen by the way is really really nice, if you ever smoked you'll find that it is not that far off a Camel Light say, but is 95% less harmful studies have shown | topazfrenzy

11/11/2021 06:13 | Is smoking a growth market ? Can smoking slow down global warming by sending more humans to early graves thus reducing their carbon footprint ? Should we actually encourage smoking ? A think tank is currently looking into this … | wheniwasalad
11/11/2021 06:06 | Guys this is not Dogecoin, we're investing in a massively undervalued cash flow producing machine that is currently unloved by the market. Cheerleading the stock price on a daily/hourly basis will not change much. It could take years until the market realizes the value of BATS. Until the ESG investing fad dies down or the bureaucrats at the FDA find the next 'horrible' substance (fat, sugar, white bread, soy beans..) to focus on in order to justify their salaries, we will not see a re-rating in the P/E ratio of big tobacco. Until then the dividends alone will generate larger returns than the broader market so sit back, DRIP and enjoy the ride! | gabsterx

08/11/2021 22:33 | FWIW i did a calculation that assumes 3% profit growth, 3% dividend growth, and any excess cashflow put towards buying back shares. assuming no change in share price, EPS would be rising at about 6% per annum, and in 5 years they'd have bought back 15% of the shares. in the 5 year period they'd have paid £13 per share in dividends. | m_kerr
08/11/2021 16:23 | Same here.Bought at 2530p for quarterly income. | gateside

07/11/2021 05:56 | "Furthermore, BAT’s income potential appears to be relatively attractive. While the FTSE 100 index yields around 3%" To be fair the FTSE 100 yields closer to 4%(calculations based on FTSE100 tracker Vanguard's VUKE dividends and latest price): TTM dividends: 1.234 GBP Nov 5 Price: 32.02 GBP Yield = 3.9% Still less than half than BATS though, I'm long both. | gabsterx |
