Obese people should not be treated for anything for free, they should lose all that fat first if they need the NHS, no exceptions

============== Young People and their catching Covid-19 ===============

The young people of today will pay for the prosperity of the elderly tomorrow ---

or will they ???

Here is an abstract of a recent published medical paper regarding 13-24 ages :

Purpose:

Assess whether youth cigarette and e-cigarette use are associated with COVID-19 symptoms, testing and diagnosis.

Methods:

An online national survey of 13-24 year olds was conducted in May 2020 (n=4351). Multivariable logistic regression assessed relationships among COVID-19-related symptoms, testing and diagnosis and cigarettes only, e-cigarettes only and dual use, socio-demographic factors, obesity, and complying with shelter-in-place.

Results:

COVID-19 diagnosis was 5 times more likely among ever-users of e-cigarettes only [95%CI 1.82,13.96], 7 times more likely among ever-dual-users [95%CI 1.98,24.55] and 6.8 times more likely among past 30-day dual users [95%CI 2.40, 19.55]. Testing was 9 times more likely among past 30-day dual-users [95%CI 5.43, 15.47] and 2.6 times more likely among past 30-day e-cigarette only users [95%CI 1.33, 4.87]. Symptoms were 4.9 times more likely among past 30-day dual users [95%CI 3.07, 7.16].

Conclusion: COVID-19 is associated with youth use of e-cigarettes only and dual use of e-cigarettes and cigarettes, suggesting the need for screening and education.

Seems daft to short at a low. I'm no expert but i'd have thought it more logical to do it at a high.

Nobody will agree to abiding by lockdown by the middle of this year. I think even the government will agree that it's better to die than live under lockdown restrictions.

CW, you are confusing possibility with certainty.

Definitely get the point you are making, however we don't know.

It's a possibility but far from a certainty. I invest on probability not possibility. Anything is possible...........

Its only a matter of time before a variant evolves that the vaccine won't work against and starts rampaging around the World. The pound will crash and everyone will move into defensive.
Probably happen by the Autumn here after the prats in London put everything back to normal in June .
About as certain as day follows night !

I share your sentiment but to put it simply smoking is an addiction, surely we will see it rise back up shortly?

I got back into BATS last October, grabbed a bargain at 2450p - subsequently rose to 2900p and looked like some form of normality had returned. Since then share price has fallen 14%. No doubt we're seeing continued fallout from recent results which I thought were very robust but market thought otherwise. Having bought more last week @ 2600p I'm taken aback how quickly it's dropped below 2500p (not helped by FTSE plunging 160 points as I write), couldn't help but pick-up more at 2495p. BATS now yielding over 8%, seems bonkers to me. It appears there's no end to the negative sentiment towards tobacco sector at present (both IMB and BATS). How long can these stocks be ignored? This is a FTSE 100 constituent making billions of profit, however given its erratic movements of late you'd be forgiven for thinking it was an AIM stock! Bewildering.
