Where is the rationale in that argument.

I would not dismiss it

Tobacco plants were used with ZMapp on Ebola treatments. As I understand the Tobacco plants have a unique ability to grow vaccines and enable easy transportation. It is worth a little more research

Nah, I don't buy it. They are tobacco, not pharma. What next - online delivery service, electric cars? This project will disappear slowly over the next year or two without any positive impact to revenue (imo).

British American Tobacco PLC said Wednesday that its Investigational New Drug application for a coronavirus vaccine has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, allowig it to proceed to Phase 1 clinical trials in adult volunteers.

BAT--which produces cigarettes, electronic and vape products and other tobacco products--said its vaccine candidate will shortly enroll 180 healthy volunteers for a trial, with results expected in mid-2021. If positive, the results would allow for a Phase 2 study, subject to regulatory approval.

The candidate vaccine, developed by BAT's U.S. bio-technology arm Kentucky BioProcessing, uses fast-growing plant-based technology. The approach brings a number of possible advantages, including the rapid production of vaccine active ingredients in six weeks rather than several months, and has the potential to be stable at room temperature.

"Moving into human trials with both our Covid-19 and seasonal flu vaccine candidates is a significant milestone and reflects our considerable efforts to accelerate the development of our emerging biologicals portfolio," BAT's Director of Scientific Research David O'Reilly said.

Shares at 1551 GMT were up 6.5 pence, or 0.2%, at 2844.5 pence.

Good news philanderer. Late to the party, but could be a game changer as it may not need the extreme freezing of the other contenders.....

A COVID-19 vaccine being developed by British American Tobacco (NYSE:BTI) from tobacco leaves has been approved for human trials by the FDA.

The enrollment for the study is expected to start shortly, with results likely by mid-2021.

"Moving into human trials with both our COVID-19 and seasonal flu vaccine candidates is a significant milestone," states BAT's Director of Scientific Research David O'Reilly.

Well, compared to the ftse this year, (and I think "anything" has already happened), so one might expect it to do better, but it is certainly not acting as a very defensive proposition.

everyone will want this soon, all the funds shunning tobacco will be packing in in droves before long, very few places to hide with the crisis about to hit Europe after a no deal Brexit, the EU is truly stuffed, a sinking ship mired in debt and up-your-a*se bureaucracy
