A choppy week for the share price The WHO came out with a statement questioning the safety of e-cigs,yet our UK health policy is to encourage vaping over cigarette use as the former is viewed as a less harmful alternative.Secondly,PM came out with their mission statement to eventually eliminate all cigarettes with their product alternatives.The better news is that PM is anticipated to achieve an earnings beat when results are released 6/2.If we can get an earnings beat read across to BAT as a result then we can consolidate an share price above £34 hopefully imho.

CDC narrows recommendations on vaping

Its updated warning recommends that people stop vaping THC, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, and consider avoiding vaping altogether if concerned about the risk to lungs.


Evidence continues to build implicating a thickening agent, vitamin E acetate, that is added to illicit THC products as the culprit in the illnesses which have hospitalized 2,668 people and killed 60.

Philip Morris might give us the heads up here with their results due out 6/2.Although comparisons with foreign companies in the same sector can be a little spurious,it is a global tobacco giant with the same factors to consider.If PM rises on results 6/2 i'm confident BATS will too imho.

That's why i'm not selling in haste and repenting at leisure Garycook.I'm waiting until results on 27/2.The vaping-related illnesses in the US peaked 8th September so things appear to be improving there.There is definite momentum in the share price here but is £40 achievable? Also the usd/gbp exchange rate could be disadvantageous soon, adding currency headwinds to BAT earnings, as imho the dollar is set to weaken in presidential election year hurting earnings going forward.Still,certainly not complaining at the share price performance over the last few weeks.

I see the dividend yield is around 5.8% at the current share price Looking at the dividend history there's been an annual payout over 4 quarters of 203p for the last couple of years.Is the dividend likely to stay at this rate? If there isn't going to be an increase in the dividend then surely there will be limited upside from hereon in.A 5.8% yield for a stock that has heavy regulatory factors to consider means a risk premium has to be priced into the share price I have every intention of waiting for the 27/2 year end results day,but the temptation to book profits here becomes more compelling.I'm hoping the year end results exceed forecasts and a higher dividend is achieved.

Brokerage Jefferies said that while vaping sales would take a near-term hit from the new rules, the overall financial impact for BAT and Imperial would be minimal as most users would either switch to menthol or tobacco, or even to higher-margin traditional tobacco products.
