Hi cashflo, yes it's been a few years since I was active. Gosh I remember you from back in the late nineties. What a fine time that was to invest in the sector. I'm still splitting my time between Java & Sweden but tending towards a more sedate retirement now. Less brothels and more golf.

I'm a commodities perma-bull so I've basically slept the last 4 years. I woke up about six weeks ago and it's all a bit like spring, everything is so exciting you just don't know where to look. BLT is definitely my favourite for the up-cycle, can't actually believe it's sub $30 (I only buy ADRs nowadays).

How are you doing? I hope it's been a good decade so far.

If you want to take on Vale in Brazil - Good luck! Greenpeace got 6 months of Putin's hospitality, but in Brazil they just shoot you. Nobody really cares when war is erupting all over the west.

It's beginning to look like Samuel Huntington was too clever by half. Another very sad period in human history. It might be wise to avoid all non NYSE listed shares for a while. Lockheed Martin & Raytheon up nicely though.

revell, tbh your guess would be as good as mine,
as mentioned on the RIO board it's not something I could time
and my view is a 5-7 year one.

Who would have thought the ftse would be up after the Paris atrocity happened after Fri close.

Is it that the US won't now put interest rates up?

BLT was doing well at 8:30

On a simplistic level commodities are cyclicals tending towards seven year cycles, so a four year fall would traditionally suggest we are close to if not at the bottom of that cycle.

Another reason is that the Chinese economy is still doubling every ten years (for good or bad is another argument) while climate change is causing resources to become both scarcer and more difficult to produce.

That's about as simplistic as it gets.

I'm not necessarily advocating buying, however sector prices will begin
rising well before the low in the cycle IMV.

on a very simplistic level anyone considering buying into BLT should ask themselves if they honestly believe the multi-year commod bear market is over and why? then let us know to dissect :)

Would guess there is a dividend cut next week, which would be
beneficial to the SP, but not income seekers, just IMV.

French President declares an act of war.If I am not mistaken oil usually goes up and frankly what happened in Paris makes our disaster seem irrelevant.Let's hope Cameron wakes up; finally.

$12 Trillion + has been injected into these markets by the FED, the drugs are about to stop, then you'll see nothing to artificially support these markets, many stocks will end up zombie penny shares. Reckon we head lower than the March 2009 lows.

Indeed they have. I thought the turnaround in the Glencore share price signaled a floor was finally in place, I was premature, but these type of things are unpredictable, it's in the nature of the beast when you invest in these sectors and as such an element of disaster is built into the share valuations. But when a cyclical cycle is on the cusp of reversal the bears will be out in force to squeeze out the last drops. Par for the course.

Bear in mind that so far the fines stand at about $66 million split 50-50 between Vale & BLT. Samarco is suspended (but still the responsible party) and Vale & Billiton are meeting with their insurers and legal advice all weekend.

The share price collapse suggests fines akin to $15 billion apiece. Slight overreaction?
