You can put whatever spin you like on these results but bottom line is they made a loss and I cannot see any significant improvement over the coming year. Yes the medical side is improving and they are moving into larger premises to cope with expected demand by the end of Q2 but margins obviously lower than Telco side which is stagnating at best. share price in doldrums at the moment and it may drift a little lower as people lose interest, medium term could spike on any rumours or positive news but overall I expect a fairly flat year.

Break up value must be about 50m so with market cap of 66m the business only valued at 16m so they only need to make a couple of million to justify share price.

Time to give up on this poor excuse of a business imo. Just very poor.

Just cannot EVER see this company actually come good ... several years of contiguous poor results and a long term track record hof continual dissapointment.

It really transpires that the focus is on the medical side of the business, showing more potential than the telecom, which disappoints.
I am surprised to find that the shift toward the medical could be the making of BATM.
Expect to share price to remain in the doldrums for another year.

The thing with these utility company wins is that whilst the initial contracts are probably not that huge, its a foot in the door and they will receive ongoing business. They appear to be pushing the right buttons in this area, so hopefully wins with a goodly cluster of these utilities, will start to add up and they are arguably better repeating business with less volatility.

There are so many regions that have to upgrade facilities or they will be further unable to serve their customers. Its been a real thorn in the side this constant delaying. I like the remark that some exec made (think its in one of JD's posts above) but he likened the providers to someone pouring crystal clear water down rusty pipes...... and believe me thats just whats going on.
We have fiber op here the full monty right the way to the router..... most places use fiber op in some form but it is patched into the system and is NOT end to end.
Utterly ridiculous and defeats the whole purpose of having it.
Many of you might think you have high speed internet but until you see it totally end to end first hand the difference will I am sure shock most people.

Have a great weekend if you can. We watched the storm damage and flooding in the UK.... not nice at all. Hope it moderates....

Article out on new contract win. Regional customers offered made-to-measure network services

Telco Systems, a BATM company (LSE: BVC, TASE: BATM) and a leading provider of CE 2.0 multi-service Carrier Ethernet and MPLS edge access solutions for mobile backhaul, business Ethernet services and cloud networking, today announced that SWT trilan GmbH, a municipal utility company in Trier, Germany, selected Telco Systems' Carrier Ethernet and 10G Ethernet solutions, along with the EdgeGenie service management system, to expand the SWT trilan network and allow them to offer its regional customers with made-to-measure network services.

Public utility companies continue to broaden their service offerings by including digital communication services. The digital net is increasingly becoming the focus of attention of public utilities that normally supply water, electricity and gas. SWT trilan GmbH has been offering its clients network access since 2001. Their newly installed infrastructure is based on a Carrier Ethernet 2.0 solution and extends their offering with individual scalable bandwidth and services.

The expanded networks of SWT trilan GmbH are based on Telco Systems' solutions towards a 10 Gigabit Ethernet backbone for voice and data. In this way, customers can connect to the internet with point-to-point connections established between different locations or computer centers with high levels of flexibility and accessibility. The prerequisites for regional service providers include stability of the infrastructure, unlimited availability, future-proof technology and uncomplicated customer management to ensure a profitable and dependable digital service business – Telco Systems' devices not only meet, but exceed these requirements. With the implementation of Carrier Ethernet and Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS), SWT trilan has deployed a local and autonomous solution for global services that integrates simple operation, bandwidth flexibility and modern reliable technology.

The infrastructure was made available through the cooperation with Pan Dacom Direct Gmbh using Telco Systems' devices. Customer and connection management is provided for through Telco Systems' EdgeGenie service management system. EdgeGenie, which allows for flexible bandwidth management and service assurance via robust integrated OAM tools, enables simple installation and transparent control of voice, data and internet services while optimizing the available network capacity. Thus, preset or variable bandwidths can be utilized efficiently while guaranteeing profitability. Simulation and runtime tools also assist in making the right decisions and supporting the service optimization and price calculation. The network provided by Trier's supply company is already prepared for the new SDN technology, which allows for even more flexibility towards individual customer services.

"It was essential for us, as network providers, to have a network that allows for automated service provisioning", says Lothar Maximini, Director of Network Services at SWT trilan GmbH. "By using flexible bandwidths, we can offer our customers with made-to-measure services at affordable prices."

"The trend of providing network services by local supply companies, as either an alternative to or adjacent to traditional providers, is becoming more apparent worldwide", says Francois Tournesac, VP of Sales and Business Development for Telco Systems. "We support this development through a large range of network appliances, which enable setting up infrastructures according to the required capacity locally, without compromising performance, functionality or future security. With the deployment of Carrier Ethernet 2.0, SDN and Telco Systems' EdgeGenie management system, the municipal utility in Trier is on the safe side and well prepared for all future developments."

"The foundation for the new network and the option to create new businesses began several years ago with the installation of our WDM-System SPEED-OTS-5000", explains Markus Frster, Head of Product Management at Pan Dacom Direkt. "We are proud of our long lasting partnership and are looking forward to our future cooperation. This involves planning, installation, services and training."

Overruled Net Neutrality Judgment Promotes Innovation and Room for Growth for Telco Systems
Jan 31, 2014

The D.C. Circuit Court issued its opinion last week rejecting the FCC's net neutrality nondiscrimination and anti-blocking rules, citing that the FCC did not have the authority to implement these rules under the Communications Act. The implications of open internet suppress innovation in the industry because it prevents service providers from the freedom to offer different options and levels of services tailored to each customer, thus depriving consumers of choice. With this ruling in favor of service providers, it will cause many of them to grasp this opportunity to offer their customers new differentiated services, and to reposition themselves as a value added service provider, not just a connectivity provider. Service providers will then seek to increase the intelligence of their networks. Telco Systems is well positioned to help our customers take advantage of this opportunity for innovation in the industry.

What does this mean for telecom customers?

While some are saying that the current standing of network neutrality is not a win for the average consumer, there are many points to the contrary. The new ruling will enable users to buy advanced services to promote enhanced experiences using network dependent services. The ability to differentiate services opens up new opportunities for service providers to deliver an increasing number of services with higher granularity. The value is created by allowing each customer to custom fit the services of their choice, based on a variety of parameters like quality, cost, and availability, among others. It will also expedite trends in the telecom world towards offering more dynamic and elastic services while enabling customers to get the exact services they seek.

What does this mean for telecom industry players?

Today, content providers like Netflix and YouTube are the key players influencing the revenue stream, while service providers are considered pipelines for streaming their content. This leaves no real incentive to enhance the pipelines – it's like drinking pure spring water in rusted, decayed pipes. Under the new ruling, service providers will be included back in the revenue system by driving content providers to re-invest in their network capabilities in order to enhance the services provided, while allowing consumers access to advanced services.

Content providers will also be able to offer end users services with guaranteed performance, instead of "best effort" services that are often seen today. Picture this... you rent a movie from Netflix with two options: $2 for a movie that can get stuck buffering every few minutes (which you've probably experienced before), or $3 ($2.2 will go to Netflix and $0.8 will go to the service provider) for a movie that is assured not to get buffered, providing a clearly optimal user experience. With network neutrality, service providers do not have the incentive to offer these services, denying consumers the optimal experience they seek, and networks will not be driven to innovate towards advanced technologies to provide that experience.

How will this affect Telco Systems?

Ariel Efrati, CEO of Telco Systems, explained that, "Given that service providers, mainly at the edge and access, will invest in these capabilities to generate revenue and will reinvest their profits from such services back into their networks, this will immediately boost the business opportunities and revenue of advanced network technology vendors like Telco Systems. A boost of growth is imminent for vendors in this field, with Telco Systems best positioned to make this new offering possible."

Specifically, Telco Systems' technology is at the core of such new services, offering advanced flexible and policy-guided switching software capabilities and enabling differentiated and guaranteed services. The only vendors that can really guarantee the performance and enablement of these services are those that are focused on data networking – Telco Systems is the leader in such technology.

Telco Systems is well position to be a leader in the telecom industry revolution. As a fast
paced company, Telco Systems identifies this judgment, together with the SDN and NFV development, as an opportunity for increased growth and faster innovation, and is setting up to pave the way for a new era of innovation!
