Rule of Law thrown out the window by Minister Ryan and his partners should hold their heads in shame for letting him behave like a vengeful dictator in a coalition government. A sad day for this government and it wont be forgotten...

Even Ryan's own department have warned him about the likely consequences and outcome, there is clear legal precedent and LG's team and the Lansdowne's team will be acutely aware of this,..GL S hTTps://www.irishtimes.com/business/2023/08/18/ryan-playing-for-high-stakes-in-barryroe-licence-move/ The state could take a big financial hit if it lost a court case to Barryroe Offshore Energy, Minister for Environment Eamon Ryan was warned by officials before he signed off on a decision not to renew its licence to prospect for oil off the Cork coast. The warning was contained in a cover note accompanying a submission to the minister on April 25th from the Geoscience Regulation Office (GSRO), a unit within the Department of the Environment. The note said Barryroe had passed a technical assessment but, based on a report by external consultants EY and an internal review by the department's own financial adviser, they did not meet the investment cover criterion set down by law. Released to us under the Freedom of Information Act, the note points out there was one previous instance of a company being given an exploration licence extension without meeting investment cover. "However in that case the proposed work programme was desktop studies, and not for costly and high-risk activities such as the drilling of a well," the officials said. The decision not to extend the Barryroe licence was "very likely to be legally challenged by the applicant – they have indicated same", the note went on. "If the department were to lose any case in the Barryroe challenge, there are potentially substantial financial impacts to the department and reputational damage to the GSRO", and its strategic goal to "ensure best-in-class governance and regulation".

It is not just CO2 that is a problem for offshore wind - cost may be the straw that broke the camel's back.

Subject is CO2 emissions.

The manufacture of offshore floating wind turbines in the Atlantic requires massive foundations. The process of making concrete for them releases huge amounts of CO2 into the environment which adds to the total emissions for the country.

Proposed capacity for each offshore wind turbine in the Atlantic is 15Mw, and total ambition is 30Gw, which would require 2000 turbines.

An average weight for a turbine foundation is about 27,500 tonnes of concrete. See Eddie O'Conner's book "Supergrid Super Solution" pgs 81-82.

The manufacture of the concrete for 100 turbines per year (2.75M tonnes) would generate 1,176,213 tonnes of CO2 (1 tonne per cubic metre). One cubic metre is approx. 2.35 tonnes.

The total amount of CO2 emissions from the concrete manufacturing industry in Ireland was 2.86Mt CO₂ in 2022, or 4.7% of national total emissions.

This increase in CO2 emissions is not permissible because the total for this sector is expected to decrease.

The CO2 emissions for tower concrete, nacelles, transport, manufacture of towers and foundations, ... has not been included.

It seems that the Minister for Energy is promoting projects for wind energy when in fact he is preventing them from going ahead because of his previous actions (Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Act 2021) in prohibiting increased emissions.

It looks like he has chicken and egged himself.

He cannot use the excuse that Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) will compensate because the largest CCS operation in the world (ORCA in Iceland) is only 4000 tonnes per year.

Would someone please check these findings because of the implications for the responsible person.

Subject is Graphene.

Graphene has been described as a next gen super-material. It is now possible to produce it in a pristine customised state by a clean process. The inputs are gas (Methane) and electricity. Microwaves create a plasma the splits the gas into graphene flakes and hydrogen.

A few uses, of which there are many, could be for offshore wind turbines: when included as a marine coating for nacelles it provides to 40% better protection, and as an additive to concrete. The additive (0.5%) makes the concrete lighter, stronger and more water repellent.

One 15Mw turbine requires 25,000-30,000 tonnes of concrete for the foundation which supports a weight of 400-600 tonnes (tower and nacelle). See Eddie O'Conner's book "Supergrid Super Solution" pgs 81-82.

A company in control of the supplies of gas and electricity controls the cost and quality of the graphene.

On reflection a forum adds complications and may not be very secure because of
emerging AI bots mimicing humans.

I will post my ideas here and BEY can ask me to contact them by email when interested.

LOL, Hundreds of new UK oil and gas licences for new gas and oil drilling in the North Sea, so we should be fine. Not too many miles for the oil and gas to arrive in Ireland for the next 10 years. What a farce!

Glad you are in Herm

There is another side that I will give a brief outline to. It is an idea that might
persuade LG to see that PIs are an asset.

IIs have lots of bucks while PIs have numerous heads. As individuals each head cannot do much but as a group much can be achieved. We could research new business opportunities, anything that would benefit the company. AI could assist in research and presentation etc.

Some kind of online forum would be needed to preserve confidentiality. Business presentations given only after full analysis.

Whatever benefits the company benefits us.

At the moment it is just an idea, that I don't know how to implement.

Anyone interested?

These guys know how to play the system to some tune... Great to see some glimmer of light at the end of this long tunnel for all on this board who trade on the extremes of risk ...either by design or by default... at least for 1 day we will pause... I salute you and wish you all well for a soft exit,
