01/4/2020 17:14 | Would I be right in thinking that the cancellation of the dividend will have blown a giant hole in the ability of Sherborne C to finance its highly geared position in Barclays? There must be a chance that Sherborne becomes a forced seller? | seekthetech

01/4/2020 16:19 | RTTNews) - Barclays plc (BARC.L, BCS) announced its Board has decided that, for 2020, the company will not undertake any interim ordinary share dividend payments, accrual of ordinary share dividends, or share buybacks. The Board has agreed to cancel the 6.0 pence per ordinary share full year 2019 dividend that was due for payment on 3 April 2020. The Board will decide on any future dividend policy and amounts at year-end 2020. Nigel Higgins, Chairman, said: "The bank has a strong capital base, but we think it is right and prudent, for the many businesses and people that we support, to take these steps now, and ensure that Barclays is well placed to continue doing what we can to help through this crisis." | bernie37

01/4/2020 15:02 | m1k3y1..... theres often a lot of confusion from accounting terminology and everyday terminology. I'm rather rusty on all the definitions but T1 does include 'common stock' (equity capital) but at the issue price rather than the current price. I imagine Investopedia or wikipedia may provide more detail (or confusion!!). | cmillar
01/4/2020 14:36 | cmillar.....Thank you my understanding is that Tier 1 capital is core capital and is comprised of a bank's common stock, retained earnings, accumulated other comprehensive income (AOCI), non cumulative perpetual preferred stock and any regulatory adjustments to those accounts. Given that the value of the Banks common stock is included, surely if this value falls , it must have an effect on the Tier 1 calculation. | m1k3y1 |
