history repeats itself, banks dividends were considered safe after all the stress tests and now this.nothing is safe anymore.logically the share price should drop by the amount of annual dividend because the dividends could be reinstated assoon as this mess is cleared but usually the drop in share price is overdone.so i expect 73P to be tested tomorrow.

When people stop getting emotional about a dividend which is now being retained rather than paid, they will realise that shareholder value remains as it was with zero loss of value. This event was broadly priced in and politically motivated. I have a pretty strong hunch that Barclays casino has made a fortune in the last quarter in fixed income and trading volatility and while they will support good businesses and play the political game, they will at the end of the day be as ruthless in managing their loan book as they were in 2007. The one constant as a bank shareholder is that in the long run the bank always wins.

A buywell general observation

Clearly the large seller used the update to AA. exit the market or part exit

What IMO you are going to see is all firms stop paying dividends and conserve cash for the next 2 years in a Global recession.

Many will have to take on additional debt

Many will have to raise cash from very depressed share price levels as markets fall further

Those already carrying big debts and pension problems will be in a disadvantaged place compared to those that don't

''Cash will be king'' as they say

Special situations in certain sectors

Will be the order of the day

Till Covid-19 finally goes away

Which IMO could take years and might in fact never happen if it keeps on rolling around the world and self propagating itself in poorer 3rd world countries to return to Westernized more wealthy ones that got through the first wave/s.

Yes I meant in theory and assuming no other factors - which of course may not be the case. Just with all the morons shouting about it plummeting I was needing to check the basic logic .

In the same way that a share goes down when it goes ex dividend (and this did) is it not simple logic that this will go up by the same amount when it has gone from ex dividend and has it reinstated, i.e. up by 6p?
