13/4/2016 15:28 | These are signicant cuts. Could this CEO actually turn around this donkey of a bank? --- Barclays has shed 8,000 jobs in four months, the fastest headcount reduction in at least five years, as it steps up a big cost-cutting drive. The reductions have come from a hiring freeze imposed by Jes Staley when he started as chief executive in December and cuts to the investment bank. | smurfy2001
13/4/2016 13:52 | Correct Alphorn. And if the other US banks repeat the JPM figures - and let's face it, they were only better than the really poor expected, not stellar or anything - then Barclays could bounce with each Wall Street announcement. Followed by their own better than expected first quarter, and, before you know it, we sit at two pounds a share and the shorts will be racing each other to exit. More good news from China on Friday with the GDP backing up the production numbers overnight and yet more fuel to the markets to go higher. All good fun and games for them undoubtedly... 13/4/2016 10:25 | Smartypants - don't you think that being a major component of the FTSE 100 with a near 100 pt jump today (after yesterday's marginally down day) following the Dows near 165pt jump after our close yesterday may have something to do with it? Not sure why the markets have jumped. Long may it continue! | technohead
