21/12/2023 09:20 | Berenberg: BAE primed for another positive year The outbreak of further global conflict means aerospace and defence group BAE Systems (BAES) is ‘primed for another good year’, says Berenberg. Analyst George McWhirter retained his ‘buy’ recommendation and increased the target price from £11.70 to £12.20 on the Citywire Elite Companies AA-rated stock, which was trading at £10.79. He said the group is ‘well placed to deliver a 10% earnings-per-share compound annual growth rate over the mid-term’. ‘The building blocks are a combination of mid- to high single-digit organic revenue growth, steady margin expansion and low single-digit accretion from the ongoing share buyback,’ he said. ‘As we look towards 2024, recent progress towards enacting the full-year 2024 US defence budget is positive, reducing the potential for a more protracted budget impasse, which was threatening to cause growing disruption to BAE’s US business – which is c.45% of revenue.’ McWhirter said the next catalyst for the shares will be the closing of the $5.6bn (£4.4bn) Ball Aerospace acquisition, which ‘we model to occur at the beginning of second half 2024, although we think a shorter timeline is possible’. | pj84 | |
