BAE Systems has joined the United Nations' Race to Zero campaign, by signing up to the Business Ambition for 1.5°C.

This commits us to setting science-based targets to align with the aim of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming. Earlier this year, we announced our target to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions across our operations by 2030 and across our value chain by 2050.

The biennial defence and security event, DSEI, will proceed as planned in September 2021 with a new digital offering running alongside the live exhibition.

Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) has confirmed it will take place as originally scheduled from the 14th-17th September at ExCeL London. The decision to proceed follows close consultation and discussion with the UK Government and industry stakeholders.

British ‘Team Tempest’ is itching to enter new fighter design phase this summer
LONDON – Britain’s effort to develop a sixth-generation combat jet is on track, with the concept and assessment phase of the program expected to be signed off by industry and government imminently, according to officials involved in the discussions.

An announcement by the Ministry of Defence on a contract starting the next phase of work on the British-led Tempest future combat air program is expected in the next few weeks, said a BAE Systems spokesman.

So we better befriend some stable politically acceptable Middle Eastern country so we can borrow their airfields next time we need to attack our foes. Any suggestions?

The Ministry of Defence have confirmed that the new Tempest jet will not be carrier capable and will be a purely land based aircraft.

While many already knew this, there had been little in the way of official confirmation until James Heappey, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence responded to a written Parliamentary question from Tobias Ellwood.

I think it's fair to say that we're all struggling to find reasons why this isn't 650p.

Looking at the 5 year graph, the up/down sequence is now due a major up.

You are suggesting that BAES have sold forward their US dollars? Not convinced that would be the case, they do a huge amount of business in the US. If not, the outcome of that business is worth less when consolidated to GBP reporting.

which is a cyclical effect. I know it is used as a reason for traders to trade in a direction but the effect is cyclical and companies hedge currency effects

GBP strengthening against USD means reporting profits from US will be lower when consolidated, and US profits are a hefty chunk.

Cycles... expect the unexpected, the city boys are probably tied up elsewhere being near the end of the month, but it can drive you nuts, at least we are in so when it happens

True, sorry...having a bad day here!

The FTSE is terrible, it goes down when the Dow does, but doesn't recover when the DOW goes up, thus most FTSE companies suffer.

That said, I still don't understand the stock market reaction to BAE recently. The company is in a better position now than it was when the share price was 650p.
