Looking at the share price graph (Not my usual Fri night activity but then this is not a normal Friday!) you could not tell the calamitous effect that Covid has had on the wider market. Still higher than a yr ago.
Wish I could say the same about most of my portfolio.

British Army orders four Rheinmetall Mission Master-Cargo UGVs

The United Kingdom armed forces have ordered four Mission Master-Cargo unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) from Rheinmetall Canada for its Robotic Platoon Vehicle (RPV) programme, the company announced in a press release on 16 April.

The contract includes training, service support, and spare parts. Rheinmetall Canada is to supply the platforms, while Rheinmetall BAE Land Systems will provide on-location support services.

If BAe did pay the dividend it would drop the share price by a similar amount , so I don't worry about it. Let's face it , there are more things to be bothered by right now that the next divi. I suspect most of us will see our yield savaged as well as the capital value plunges in most of our portfolio. We will be paying this bill for a long time in higher taxation as well, but the main thing is to live long enough to pay that bill...

PoikkaApologies for the flippant reference, I made it against what I took to be a flippant comment. I understand investors are reliant on dividends but I would rather the company and its supply chain retained the buffer until this crisis is properly understood, or over.In fact, is it not the good, prudent business management that attracts investors in the first place? This is management of risk.

Well yes, it sounds reasonable on the face of it, I agree, but a reduced dividend would have meant that a certain amount would have gone into the economy, and into the pockets of those who rely on dividends for their income - and that doesn't necessarily mean that those people are wealthy - on the 1st June.

A totally deferred dividend would mean that any payment would take place further down the line, and not before 1st August.

So we disagree, but that's ok by me - at least.

From the header above....... "Ex-dividend date 16 April 2020, Record date 17 April 2020, An update on the dividend payment will be provided at the Half Year results on 30 July 2020"

Whatever decision has to be made will be made public on or after 30 July 2020.

Firstly, my moniker is not 'porky' - I'm entitled to my opinion without another poster using an offensive title.

Secondly, a reduced dividend would have the benefit of conserving cash whilst supporting the economy, with obvious benefit to all companies, even if indirectly.

Thirdly, you're filtered.

PorkyWhat irresponsible actions are those?They, as all, need to conserve cash to weather any further extended disruption to ensure they and their supply chains are able to come out of this.No business in the future means no future dividends and loss of your invested capital. You would rather that?

Well, no actually, they quite obviously do not. If they did, they'd pay out a reduced dividend and defer the rest.

Irresponsible actions such as BA. and others are taking will mean that there'll be less real money in the economy to help it when some semblance of normality eventually returns.

Temporary morgue to be set up at BAE Systems in Warton to cope with spike in deaths

A temporary morgue for up to 1,000 people is set to be built at a BAE Systems site in Lancashire to ensure that the county can cope with any spike in deaths as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

The facility will be constructed at the company’s Warton plant in Fylde in preparation for what has been described as a “potential increase” in demand for mortuary space across the region.

Once work begins, it is expected to be completed in the space of just eight days and the morgue will be operational – should it be required – before the end of the month.

HMS Audacious, the fourth of seven Astute-class attack submarines being built by BAE Systems for the Royal Navy, set sail from Barrow-in-Furness for the first time on the 6th of April.

BAE say that new ways of working and amended protocols have been introduced at the site, in line with Government guidelines, “to enable a small team of employees to provide vital support to the Royal Navy ahead of the boat’s departure, while protecting their health and wellbeing”.

I don't hold, but as an ex-bae employee I would have thought that this was one of the more defensive stocks around (no pun intended).

Vast majority (or should that be ALL) of the projects that I worked on in over 30 years were multi year projects with payment upon completion of milestones etc. If I was still working I would not expect this to have had any impact at all on my work, with the possible exception that they might have pulled the desks apart a bit further and more use of video conferencing.
