14/11/2005 12:21 | Spoke to John Catchpole. Main thrust seems to be fast track into China + relationships and reading between the corporate speak hoping to be the project developer/miner at Hatu Interim results out on Wednesday | phillis
14/11/2005 09:16 | But I agree AVM aren't doing this to remain on the sidelines. If Hatu and the other sites are any good then I would expect AVM to take out the other shareholders in due course | phillis
14/11/2005 09:13 | Wendy - AVM are a miner. This is a different strategy, previously unarticulated. They do not control DYN(which cost CDN 41 cents by the way). From a personal point of view I would rather they concentrated on areas where they have direct control Some fool sooner or later is going to suggest a tie up between AVM and CDN OOOPs! (-: | phillis
14/11/2005 08:41 | wdurham, Well said - AVM will certainly have taken a close look at the Dynasty sites and are obviously pleased with what they have found. As GFM's success becomes more widely known, sentiment should improve towards mining investment in China. Small financial step for AVM at this stage but a big step for AVM in PR terms. Certainly hasn't done any harm to Eldorado. | pecker1
14/11/2005 08:39 | it does surprise me a little that, if going into China, they haven't gone for a partnership with a local government brigade on an existing resource. However, perhaps they dont have the manpower needed to fully develop a deposit. | wolstencroft
14/11/2005 08:34 | Phillis - Does it ever occur to you that CDN and now Avocet might have invested in Dynasty for very good reasons? Especially considering that the Avocet management are highly conservative? | wdurham
14/11/2005 08:30 | Not happy that they appear to be following CDN strategy of minority stakes. CDN are current shareholders | phillis
14/11/2005 08:30 | ...SVM, MUN on TSX, and GFM, GGG, SCR on AIM are all china plays who seem to be doing ok. China recently adopted a western style mining code. Mundoro mining in Canada (MUN) recently lost both business and exploration licences due to delays by the local gov't (i.e. they expired). Apparently they have been assured of getting them back - outside the cities in rural areas where the mines are there is heavy unemployment so CHina needs job creation as well as the natural resources. IF MUN gets them them back then I would imagine that bodes very well for investing in China (they are sitting on about 8M oz gold, open pit, low grade). | wolstencroft
14/11/2005 08:09 | GFM doing very well in China. | kirkuk
14/11/2005 08:03 | On the corruption scales, Russia is bad but China is worse, at least historically. Hope we haven't bought into a pup. | corrientes
14/11/2005 07:41 | Acquisition news this morning, Chinese prospect. Interesting to see how the market reacts. Personally, I'm not too keen on them moving into China but may be the future does lie with closer ties to the next superpower. | goml

10/11/2005 13:46 | Budenveiser, thanks for troubling to post the full technical background, in response to my superficial facetious and rather ignorant comment. You must be a real chartist. Let's see if a handle forms! | trader horne
10/11/2005 12:06 | Mr Ashley James, NEWS has arrived, see Jeddah's post above. | goml
10/11/2005 11:30 | Had a dream about the Avocet share price last night. Pretty sad isn't it? Still it was a good dream fiscally speaking :) | jeddah jo
08/11/2005 21:37 | On confirmed chart break out above 105p I dare say AVM will rise quite quickly as margined day traders on SBs and CFD's move in for a quick 25% to 30% IMO. NEWS? | mr ashley james
08/11/2005 13:40 | With the price of gold breaking new highs,it would be reasonable to expect a profitable co that digs the stuff out of the ground to also be reaching and breaking new highs too. | kenburns
08/11/2005 12:00 | 104p looks to be the resistance level to break. Will bide my time and top up after level is broken. Results due in a couple of weeks time. | brad1
07/11/2005 18:40 | Have a feeling that if we can break decisively through 100p again, this time we will carry on up in an end of year surge. All IMHO. | topsy turvy
07/11/2005 17:33 | How about the 390,000 bought on the first of this month too...stakes ramped up ready for re-rating perhaps? | kenburns
07/11/2005 12:15 | 200,000 buy just gone through. This could be the start of the climb to beat the recent highs then who knows! Would be great to see highs broken b4 results come out. Looking forward to this one with great expectations. | brad1
03/11/2005 20:05 | OK, so where are they on the list market cap please !! | holdontight
03/11/2005 06:16 | Assuming full capacity for existing mines and Taror/Chore, 395,000 ozpa, gold producers ordered by production: 1. Barrick 2. Newmont 3. Anglogold 4. Gold Fields 5. Harmony 6. Freeport 7. Goldcorp 8. Buenaventura 9. Kinross 10. Newcrest 11. Centerra Gold 12. Cambior 13. DRDGold 14. Lihir 15. Iamgold 16. Avocet 17. Glamis 16th largest gold producer, quite nice. Although other companies will ramp up production, too. Agnico Eagle for instance. | kojak78
01/11/2005 10:22 | Hmm, Goldcorp pays for Campbell + other mines 1350 mio in cash. US$2050/production oz and US$130/reserve oz. Cash costs will be US$150. I guess Goldcorp has achieved major status now. Now they have to prove they can acquire and develop projects. Unfortunately that means gone are the days with cash costs below US$100/oz. Costs will rise and rise with each new project. 23 mio oz in reserves support a market cap of ca. 3 bn. (perhaps 4.5 - 5 bn for a premium prodcuer). With US$150/oz Goldcorp is a premium producer. Current market valuations make Goldcorp very very interesting. | kojak78 |
