For an (presumably) intelligent person, she's behaved like a very silly woman I'm afraid. Many a slip twixt cup and lip has never been more appropriate in this instance. spud

Her comments are at best an unnecessary distraction and at worst a divisive statement which could alienate policyholders and investors. As a - presumably - throwaway line, it was daft.

Don't these people take advice before opening their mouths?

Or at least think first!!

Well the story in the DM about her comments has attracted nearly 3000 comments and the most liked nearly 5000 ticks since this afternoon.

Since those are the sort that make up AV.'s target market its fair to say that not vetting anyone other than a white male has not gone down well.

16m shares traded thats four times average. share price hasn’t moved at all.

Strange thing is market expected BoE to guide rates down and in response Property’s like British land etc shot up , BoE stated rates are unlikely to go down and property’s still stayed up while Av went down.

p0pper, I totally agree as you can see from my earlier post on the subject. It will all be forgotten in a day or two but the over-reaction is way OTT. Do we really want to have a lawyer alongside every executive before a comment/view is spoken. I am more concerned with the likes of Liniker(?) spouting off the cuff comments on issues that are far more complex and beyond his somewhat lack of detailed analysis and understanding. A storm in a teacup is my view on our generally accepted highly regarded CEO.

It was a badly worded press release - she must realise this by now.

There may be cosy chats between CEOs but at least they’re not giving brown envelopes to city councillors.

Agree re Blanc's comments. I'm out. Clumsy and stupid thing for her to say and likely the cause of this being red on such a good market day. Ratners moment coming up?

I think many here and in the media are taking her comment to the Select Committee way out of context. To my mind she was just trying to re-balance or re-address recent attitudes against minority groups and nothing more. A total storm in a teacup. When confronted one is inclined to over simplify issues nothing more /nothing less. Time is limited at these sessions which perform in general to the good.

I don’t think the market liked Blanc’s comments yesterday which when you cut through the waffle amounted to affirmative action and quota hires at higher levels. Hiring should be purely merit based and she should trust her hiring teams to be fair. I expect a number of people at Aviva are livid! Is this the start of the unravel for her?

I hope not because she is a thoroughly decent person with good intentions but she needs to get a grip and stop being so self absorbed , micro managing and politically high and mighty.

One of the best days for a long time and it's moving to a negative close. Oh well, M&G, L&G, and Phoenix are up, I'll console myself with that.

1robbob. I think that you have nailed it. I to have my own suspicions and they are credible names so we just have to bide our time and accept the very acceptable dividend stream until we see some action.
