Death by 1000 cuts!
Next year is going to be worse so where does that leave Avis?
The Belgians could buy the part of the business that they dont already own for next to nothing and then just wait out the next 2 years for the cyclical upturn to arrive.
I have been tempted a couple of times to take a stake but there seems to be no reason to do so at present.

First I get an e mail saying that my shareholder discount has been reduced from 50% to 20%.Big deal, I only had the minimum 500 shares required for the discount and for the last few years I have booked with Auto-Europe.They come in cheaper even with the discount Avis were offering.
Then, I get these e-mails offering me a 20% discount on car hire over the autumn/winter.Again big deal and to late. They could have had my business for a month over the summer but as usual they failed to correctly gauge both demand and size of vehicle required as the credit crunch hit.I'm glad I sold the majority of my holding at a profit.IMO stay well clear.

"Chairman & Chief Executive to go first. All those in favour, say Aye!"

Aye

Directors are raking in the money on fatcat salaries while their shareholders are getting screwed over.

The Market Cap is still low on this share, it seems like it is being held back,a very tough buisness to be in and we need new younger aggressive directors and this bunch should be kicked out , they do not earn there wages. Prime sites so get your fingers out directors.

The only way Avis are going to regain market share is by doing a Ryanair and undercutting the likes of Hertz,Auto Europe, etc. They should have done this couple of years back.IMO this company are going to the wall unless the management get out from behind their desks and see for themselves what is going on the frontline.Sorry, but I'm expecting further bad news come interim.

These guys are takin the p....Just received my Avis preferred card.To late, I have booked with Auto-Europe who advise that I have to collect my car from the Hertz check in desk which, if memory serves me, is just next door to the Avis Office.
I shall of course let you know if I see anyone at the Avis check in,either in front or behind the desk.

CCNP.Why? They may only just have found out and are awaiting confirmation from accountants? I reckon that we are going to hear some bad news re summer bookings. This company were never cheap when hiring a car over the summer months, even with shareholders discount. On top of that I can name a couple of venues where they seem to have totally written off the hiring of small compact cars to travellers. If this is the case, then big mistake as in the current economic climate people are downsizing not upgrading.
In summary, car rental is a competitive and cut throat market which Avis currently seems unable to compete in.
