people who do not want to be in the stock for the lauch are selling. Like many of us they will have been holding for an expected run up in price pre-launch. When this did not occur they will sell so as not to take the chance of a lunch failure. Nothing has changed and i for one have added a small top up

Julcester - watch for Santa's sleigh in the sky between 6:35pm and 9:55pm tomorrow, UK time. If you spot a satellite-shaped present onboard, cross your fingers in the hope that it DOESN'T come down your chimney.

HYLAS 2 Milestone

Avanti Communications (AIM: AVN), the satellite broadband operator, announces that HYLAS 2, Avanti's second Ka-band satellite, successfully completed its Critical Design Review this week. Passing this key milestone means that manufacturing of HYLAS 2 can continue to proceed at full speed and that the design has been validated.

The satellite, being built by Orbital Sciences in Virginia USA, uses the Star 2 platform and will deliver high speed, low cost two-way data communications via a payload of 24 fixed beams and one steerable beam in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The satellite will more than triple the capacity offered with Avanti's first Ka-band satellite.

Commenting, David Williams, Chief Executive of Avanti Communications Group plc said: "I am very pleased to report that the most important of milestones has been passed and that we have not lost a single day of schedule in this programme. We therefore continue to have full confidence that the satellite will launch on time in Spring 2012. This is important because we are experiencing very high demand for HYLAS 2 pre-sales, particularly in South Africa and the Middle East. It also demonstrates that our management teams are competent at managing multiple pressures very well."

Just considering the short term risk / reward here.

Lets assume that,
at launch the share price is 600p

and that - one week after launch:
If successful, the share price is 750p ie upside of 150p
If unsuccessful, the share price is 300p ie a downside of 300p.

On that basis, as long as 2X as many launches are successful than unsuccessful (ie 66% success) , then the risk / reward is in our favour.

Now in reality over 90% of launches are successful.....

"It looks as though Hylas [1] is slightly better than the design suggested it would be - we have a bit more capacity and we can do a few things that are a bit cleverer than we expected. In this regard our manufacturer has outperformed, so we're going to play with that for a while and that should take us a couple of months," Williams said.

smarm : I never short. You've read me wrong.

yorgi was anticipating 700p by Thursday or else....Hence my comment. No other meaning intended.

I hope it does rise > 80p on launch day then I'm really in the money.
