I also liked the fact he is Welsh. Being welsh myself also you see...probably not what I should base financial judgement on though...I agree though - I was quite impressed with him. Once I am keen on a company's fundametals, its often the management which is the stumbling block but I don't think I could have a problem with Williams...

Agree totally with you Sq31 regarding your view of David Williams. I think he focused on AVN and making it work and I'm sure he will. His focus and commitment has played a big part in my decision to buy into AVN

You have to remember they are just presenters. They often spout about things they haven't got a clue about.
David Williams is a very impressive guy.He does know what he is talking about.

ha i just watched that working lunch from earlier! Both of the presenters are rather annoying. I think Williams got his point across quite well. Some of the questions were very poor though. I was particularly annoyed when declan seemed skeptical that they could sign up 325,000 people to the service. In the whole of Europe, I am sure there are many many more than that who don't have access to cable broadband. Another poor question was about cost of the service. £20 a month is quite reasonable really. I have had Avanti on the radar for a few months now but havn't bought in yet. If it retraces much more then i will definitely be making this a large holding of mine. Personally, if all goes well then i see pre launch share price of 550p. However, I am looking at AVN with a longer view - decent cash flow in the future could lead to some very nice dividends once Hylas 2 is up!

Well good luck Al and keep a close eye on them as I'm sure you are. In the short term it may well drop back a bit further

I was loathe to sell Yorgi. I expect good contract announcement as well in the next few weeks which was why i didn;t sell all. LImited funds and all that so if i can top up a little lower or even a little bit higher than here once we are moving upwards again then I don't mind. Needing to preserve a little capital and reduce some of the risk in my portfolio right now.

Well if you have only sold half Al then your still in when we start moving up again. David Williams did say recently that further anoucements on cntract wins to be completed in weeks (or words to that effect).. I'm glad I have got back in when I did

Have to admit that I have now bailed on half of my position here. I still think the long term story is great which is why i continue to hold half but this downtrend is proving to be fairly strong adn we failed again to break it. I shall be adding more when we maange to break through. I've tried and failed before to buy against trends and it usually never works out well for me.

Good luck all
Al.

Yes all very true Smarm.

What Declan didn't seem to take on board people in remote areas don't have access to fibre optic cable or a decent connection to copper wires and the cost to getting them a connection would be very high and that is where AVN will come into play. David Williams knows his business and gave every impression he was totaly on top of things and was able to answer all the doubts and questions put to him.

As you said smarm, he defended well. He didn't say anything controversial so anything that helps promote the company is a good thing. Roll on August.

I thought the presenters were on a mission. At one end they seemed to think that 2Mb boxed on lamp posts were a great idea and at the other they were dissing the 10mb capacity William's says is enough.

I have 20mb at home (I'm told) and I still can't stream bbciplayer without the odd glitch on sound and/or vision, so he's right that far greater speeds required if we are all to switch off our over-the-air televisions. Meanwhile, someone who cannot get broadband at all might just appreciate 10mb!

They certinaly didn't seem to be "selling" the idea..... On reflection I guess Tritan and Smarm are right

--->ALL

David did also confirm that he expected to sell all of the first satellite's capacity within 3 years, but probably sooner than that even, given the current trend.

I thought the presenters were stupid and dense.

However I can't say I'm bothered....I believe they have a good product and they are making sales and as we know AVN have reguarly released RNS anouncing new contract wins

You may be both right....I guess he did rather give that impression and the prog did rather make a lot of the small town having free broadband. I tend to agree with David Williams view on things that are "supposedly" free !!! I don't think they gave that posative a view of AVN

yorgi - I'm with Tritan, I thought it was a real BBC stitch-up. Concluding the segment on Swindon the voiceover said "the world to follow", as if the world could really manage with a bit of wire and a box attached to a lamp post. I thought Williams rightfully looked angry. Neverthess, he defended well.

I think you will find Declan was only giving David Williams the chance to reinforce that they have a viable product and they have a market

Watched the CEO on Working Lunch at 13:30pm and he seemed quite positive. Confirmed Aug launch date. didn't like that Declan too much as he didn't seem to believe on the Avanti product. Assh*le!!

Hi

Am a shareholder since funding for Hylas-2 was announced. Looking to buy more but can someone answer me this. Following link describes failure of first ISRO/Antrix platform built for Eutelsat.

Bit misleading the reference to Insat 1c as it was built by Ford Aerospace.

However Insat 2d was indigenous - is it the precursor to the ISRO I-2K platform, most likely. A few questions: Was the EPS problem on 2D and 1st I-2K similiar? What is status of this problem going forward?

Moving to Orbital Sciences StartM 2.4 platform for Hylas 2 is a clear risk reducer (29th use of this platform).

Do not have a problem with the choice of launcher. Who would? But will now be rather twitchy until payload commissioning completed. Does anyone know if Avanti have commented on this.

(May tidy up this comment and send to Avanti)
