Yes but surely this requires a line of some type and is not going to replace a satellite ?

having said that i believe it is the lack of forethcoming information that is causing this to drift. If the Q2 schedule is still on track i do not envisage staying at these levels for long. It would also be nice to be updated on any recent progress in contract signings.

Possibly, he was referring to this story here:

If there is a delay then of course the FD couldn't comment before the release of a RNS. However if there is no delay then I would have thought there is no reason why he couldn't say something along the lines that everything is going to plan......My thoughts

Then we have the RNS just released which does not say anything about any delays in fact the opposite confirming launch in Q2 2010.... I think I will stick with that as being the case

does anyone know what the Hylas 1 is being sent up on if not the Soyuz??

Spoke to the Fd yesterday who said there was an update out before the end of march, but when asked if it was true that there was a delay into Q3 for launch i was told that he could not comment, everything would be explained in the release this month and "Not to believe everything you read on the web!"

Unsure as to whether they were talking about their news stories or other peoples! ;)

I guess we shall all have to wait and see what that ambiguity means.

"The Soyuz in Kourou will mostly carry commercial satellites - the first scheduled being UK telecommunications company Avanti Communications Plc.'s HYLAS 2 - but it will also put Europe's navigation system Galileo into space."

So HYLAS 1 is going up via a different method, strong elastic band maybe ?

Can't wait but agree with the drift being down to delays, people will be back soon enough.

Good spot Someuwin. If they had knowledge that the launch was delayed, they would need to provide this information in the RNS. Not doing so, is by default, confirmation that they are on track for Q2. If this was the reason for the share price retrace recently, then the RNS should address that. Could be a very nice entry point now.

Note - in today's RNS, they're still saying Q2 for launch...

"Avanti's first satellite, called HYLAS 1 will launch in Q2 2010 and will be
the first superfast broadband satellite launched in Europe."

Not sure why they did not put out a RNS, perhaps they thought 2 months was not enought of a worry. This link gives a bit of background to the Soyuz.

Thanks for the link Mammon, it states there that the launch will be from Guiana. Am I right in thinking I read somewhere that it was launching from India? Also, why don't Avanti think that the delay is newsworthy (no RNS)?

Reason for the drop may be something to do with the launch being pushed back to September, it's been drifting since that came out.

As Ariane are going to use the Soyuz for this launch and are having a few problems setting up the facilities it might push it back a bit more. Should get there in the end, but guess we must expect a slow down.
