Greengiant,

Excellent find especially the section that states:

"In addition to its Yahsat foothold, Hughes has purchased capacity aboard Ka-band spacecraft operated by Avanti of London and will use that capacity to serve Hughes customers in Europe and the surrounding region. When added to Hughes' current and planned Ka-band coverage of North America, it will provide the beginning of what Kaul said ultimately would be a global "Ka-band overlay" for broadband services.

"I believe we will have a Ka-band overlay in many other parts of the world soon," Kaul said, without offering details. He said Hughes has already shipped 10,000 consumer terminals to Avanti, whose first satellite, called Hylas-1, is in orbit and expected to enter commercial service by this summer."

The comment that Kaul makes (a global "Ka-band overlay" for broadband services.) plus the articles reference to (Hughes has already shipped 10,000 consumer terminals to Avanti) gives to me an early indication that if Avanti are successful then an acquisition by Hughes is highly likely.

Good luck to all existing holders from a new investor. Last week's entry price seemed a very good entry point for me and an opportunity not to be missed.

Yorgi, I live in France, and I can tell you that the entire issue here regarding broadband relates to ensuring everyone has access to broadband by 2014. France Telecom cannot fulfill this through conventional means, it took 4 months for me to have my internet connection connected and I live 12km from a fairly large city (Perigueux). This is an issue which is never out of the news and Eutelsat have stated that they cannot fulfill this demand without government funding. Excess demand hides a variety of sins - Avant may not be the cheapest, it may not be the best but it will fill its capacity because the demand far exceeds supply.

All very interesting and just add to my upbeat expectations for AVN. I also think Greengiant hits the nail on the nead with his last sentence.
Whether we will log on to see any further good RNS release in the morning remains to be seen but even without I would think every chance we will addd a few pence again tomorrow.

Techinvest have a pretty good track record on their tips/picks so further encouraged by their conclusion I would sooner back their call than those calling to the contrary.

It is interesting to note that Eutelsat is still not focusing on Ka Band as can be seen from their launch schedules. I would be a lot more concerned if they were investing heavily into Ka Band. This really leaves the door open for Avanti.

Estimated satellite launch schedule

Satellite Estimated launch Transponders
W3C July - September 2011 53 Ku/3 Ka
ATLANTIC BIRD(TM) 7 September - December 50 Ku
2011
W6A September - November 40 Ku
2012
W5A October - December 2012 48 Ku
W3D January - March 2013 53 Ku/3 Ka
EUROBIRD(TM) 2A* April - June 2013 16 Ku/7 Ka

And WHO says that Avanti will not be able to fill its satellites? The follwoing is a good admission by Eutelsat on the demand

Also very interesting regarding Hughes (read down about half way - 10,000 units shipped to Avanti)

Good luck to anyone who is short, you will need it

Lengthy comment by Techinvest this w/e - some people failing to understand the difference between megabit and megahertz and thus making incorrect assumptions about the traffic carrying capacities of Avanti's and Eutelsat's satellites. They think the shorties are wrong and recommends Add.

William Wyatt the AVN non exec who bought 7000 shares last week - increasing his holding to 18200 is also the CEO and Executive Director of Caledonia Investments - so i think we can say that Caledonia are backing the board.

Thank for posting Paleje well worth the read. He mentions BskyB as I have mentioned the early days of sky and BSB before they merged being a case of sky high valuations when they were pouring millions in and now they are reaping millions more

From the interims on the 14th SG

"Customers make firm irrevocable commitments to buy a specific amount of bandwidth at fixed prices and duration. In one exception, the order book includes one transaction with an institutional customer structured as an option over which the first instalment payment has been received.

In March 2010 we announced conditional contracts for the sale of 320 Mb of capacity on HYLAS 1 to a customer for service in Eastern Europe, subject to the completion of funding. The funding for this business has been partially achieved and as a result, 186 Mb of this capacity has been purchased firmly. Further customer efforts to secure funding for expansion into new territories are expected to result in the remaining option capacity (not included in the backlog) being taken up."

Anyone with views on how the civil unrest in the Middle East will affect Hylas 2 sales? I can't see the folk in the street rushing out to by sat broadband anytime soon which means the ISPs will be holding off new contracts? Plus Yahsat 1a and 1b are due to be launched this year - 2 big birds like Eutelsat's KA Sat. Glad there is a free speech board here.

I was wondering if one of the funds might add to their holding, any of those could make the directors buys look small fry.

I see Caledonia Investments have a holding of £59.3m of AVN, they don't seem to have been spooked by Investec.
