Basicaly I want to repair it. My local Merc dealer wants £1K+ for a new one so I have some incentive.
The technology is nearly 20 years old so it can't be that difficult. I just need to find out how it works. |
Im no expert O but what do want to do with it? mod for power/eco/turbo etc? |
Optimist,
You've got the right name ...... My advice would be to take it to a Bosch agent/specialist.

Is anyone an expert with Bosch ignition systems? I want to repair / convert an ignition control unit. |

I'm impressed. Reminds me of younger days when a good friend, 6' 7.5" tall, bought himself a mini (the original one) Not too much room in the back, drivers side! I almost said in my post that at the time, I was looking for an everyday car rather than a w/e fun thing.
No problem with bikes, my brother went that route, but prefer comfort these days, and so does the better half. |
I drive about in an old TVR 450 SEAC which has 320 bhp (v8)on tap and 0-60 mph in 4.7 secs, growls when you touch the pedal. Never had so much fun. Buy one (thats if you can find one) and I promise you will never look at another car. |
ashtongrey,
I'm 6'5" tall, weigh 14st 7lbs and am 48 years old, have dodgy knees from years of rugby, tennis, ski-ing and racing (and crashing) motorbikes ... An Elise is ok to get in and out of when you have the technique and the headroom is fine for me with the soft top or the hardtop.
O.k. so its not my everyday transport but its a lot more practical than some others.

audi4 diesel, best car I have owned, and i have had the whole range from Ford, tho` Merc.,Jag ,etc. trust me I am old
lol |
ashtongray - get yourself a motorbike - much more fun and no problems with the roof :) |
Not as agile as I used to be, I felt after test drive that getting in/out of Elise or VX220 with the hard top ON would be a bit of an issue, especially in confined spaces: the door sill is very wide and headroom restricted. No problem in open mode, but one cannot rely on that in SW UK!
Brilliant car to drive tho, street legal go-cart. |
niggle
It was an Elise.
LOL !

I saw a guy in an Elise yesterday and it looked tiny (or was it an elan?) , it was sort of 'wearing' him like an ill fitting suit. |
Any S3 drivers on here? I'm looking at one at the moment but I'm interested to know about servicing costs. And how far you get from a set of tyres? |
Power,
What problems, if any, have you had?
Any views on the Renault's electrics?
Ta.
