27/1/2011 11:17 | Wetherby-based hazardous waste business Augean says its pre-tax profit and exceptional costs for 2010 are likely to be slightly ahead of the expectations. That's despite the impact of the recent cold snap. In a trading update this morning, the business said it also anticipates a further reduction in net debt following continued "positive cash generation" across the group. The statement said: "We have continued to develop our key strategic opportunities during the second half of the year with a focus on enhancing the group's return on capital employed." It said it had made progress with "strategic opportunities" and the land remediation market has shown "signs of recovery" in the landfill division. The company added: "The board remains cautiously optimistic over the outlook for the year ahead. Trading has started positively in the early weeks, particularly in the landfill division where we anticipate capital cell engineering at all three of our sites during the year. "With forecasts of modest growth in industrial outputs, North Sea exploration and land remediation projects we expect that the group's broad service offering to our customers and strong asset base, coupled with the delivery of our strategic opportunities, will lead to improvements in profitability during 2011." | lbo

27/1/2011 10:10 | Augean - Encouraging signs Despite the severe weather, Augean's pre-close IMS demonstrates that actions to restructure the business improved performance ahead of expectations. This is underpinned by an impressive demand recovery with landfill volumes up 18% year-on-year, offset to some extent by pricing pressures. With nearly all Treatment sites profitable and a clear timetable on progress on the strategic revenue opportunities, we feel the outlook for the group is improved, although we remain cautious for 2011. Augean manages hazardous waste streams through two divisions: Treatment (53% of 2009 sales) and Landfill (47%). The group provides its services at 10 locations across the UK. | lbo
