Main markets correcting after irrational exuberance since Christmas.Let’s see if it’s a healthy correction or the start of something worse. Copper price all over the place today. Expect some volatility in the short term...

Cyber, you need to remember it was going to cost near 2bn dollars to build the mine for Antares. Bit different from 150m with payback in 2 years.

Antares had just completed the PEA and the proposed mine needed a 200km railway built for it.

It is well documented a sell out is not on the agenda. Tony and his Board are world class in the area of keeping what’s ours. There would be recommendations by the Board to sell at knock down prices at anything less than a couple of AUD. Remember a lot of our key guys are being paid in shares. They are looking at a long term holding not a weak sell off. There is simply no logical reason for a weak sell off leading into a decade long commodities bull market.

What's not to like with a 30p bid now!

Sounds very encouraging... however the takeout price for Antares (200kt p.a.) is slightly disappointing compared to some of the figures bandied around on this board for possible takeout of Asiamet (25kt p.a., rising eventually to 100kt p.a.)? The implication is that it would be perhaps 'only' 30p or so for a takeout here... although I admit to not knowing anything about what stage Antares was at, before being bought out.

“A junior exporter with a district scale copper porphyry project with access to necessary infrastructure,...”

Now, where could I find a company like that.....

From Mr Rs link belowWhat makes for an ideal takeover targetCopper porphyry deposits, despite their low to medium grades, are highly attractive to major producers for a variety of reasons, including their polymetallic nature, massive size and ease of mining, noted Fulp. "These are some of the largest copper deposits in the world - most of the world's copper comes from large porphyry deposits. Because the CAPEX on these projects will be at a minimum of $1 billion, for a junior exploration company with a copper deposit the only exit strategy is to sell to a major. If the deposit is large enough they can become acquisition targets."Fulp says the most notable example of a junior-held copper porphyry deposit becoming a takeover target is First Quantum Minerals' (TSX:FM) C$650-million acquisition of Antares Minerals and the giant Haquira copper-molybdenum-gold deposit in Peru. The development-stage project has the potential to produce over 200,000 tonnes of copper per year.A major producer's ideal takeover target is a junior explorer with a district-scale copper porphyry project with access to necessary infrastructure, including water, power and transportation networks.Majors are keen on acquiring a project that spans an entire mining camp rather than a small parcel because it limits risk while maximizing opportunities. Controlling an entire mining camp mitigates the potential for outside competition in a region. "If a project becomes an operating mine, the company will need additional land for surface facilities and it is much easier to acquire land at the beginning than during the development phase," said Korzeb.

Copper motoring. Up to 3.25/lb

Chartist in the IC this week reckons the Cu price will be in the 3.6 - 3.8/lb range in H2. Bodes well.

Agreed.
Theoretically the next big move should be to the 19-22p range imo.
Btw, there are no expert chartists, we are all amateurs.

Goldman aren't known as The Vampire Squid for nothing. Many people assume they are talking the opposite of their book - whatever they talk up, they're trying to sell into strength....However in this case rationality suggests that copper is indeed in a deficit, and will face increasing demands in future.

Goldman Sachs: Copper 12-Month Target Raised To $8,000/MT (Prev $7,050/MT) - RTRSCopper is where it is all going to happen. Goldman also report that they believe the next decade will be one of the strongest commodity bull markets in history. Now who is sitting on a humungous amount of the red metal and can mine it to market in the next decade? BKM, BKZ, Beutong, Baroi...........and more.No brainier eh? But we LTH's of ARS have known that for a while.

Awesome update today.Although I fear a flat share price till the end of Feb until it kicks off with BFS close and BKZ and BEUTONG updates even closer.Great time to top up.Copper holding strong above $3.20, would love a strike to kick off a run back to $3.30.Good luck all
