What next for the SP?

It's tested 1000 a couple of times which held easily but is being resisted at 1025. A 'shot' at 1040 does appear likely, whether it breaks through is another matter.

The DOW has been resisted at 17,150 for a couple of weeks as it was in mid July. It failed to breakthrough and took a biggish drop to 16,260. If it managed to breakthrough this time it would assist the AHT cause.

Excellent results and forward looking statements, increased dividend due to be paid today, and strong price support despite a mixed day in the market.

As a habitual long term lurker, nice also to hear from some of the original investors who recognized the opportunity early on, and kept the faith through turbulent times.

Ashtead, not so much a share, more of a saga!

Turning to the present, bracke many thanks for your continued postings, I, as I'm sure other readers, find them invaluable in identifying the range of possible price movements, and they are always much appreciated. This board is all the richer for them!

The indices are dropping this morning but AHT moves up slightly, no surprise, it's what it does. I appears 1000 is the 'new line in the sand' they will not want to give it up without a fight.

great to see some old faces on here.

I stop trading for a while from c2009 and restarted again 2 years ago.

Only holding Mirl (small position now for a punt), BOR (a Canford Cliffs tip) and HOC from 138p (only £150 per point).

I'm spending a fair bit on time travelling down to London at the mo, on the lead up to the Rugby World Cup.

Down at Twickenham again on 23rd Sept, if anyone fancies hooking up for a few beers.

Aye to that. If i had been able to maintain my holding that i had before the graceless drop from 243p (leveraged to the hilt) i would have had a paper profit at todays closing price of... wait for it... just over 10 million pounds.

My word....Rescuer...a name from the past.

I was a lurker and very occasional poster in 2003, and watched the banter between you, Hatto, Clarky et al. Seem to remember a fair few over on RTD too...ended up selling £25k worth of AHT at 65p....what an error.

As was my being pleased to double my money in Autonomy at £2.40 per share before selling.

And my selling ARM in 2004.

If only I had adopted the Buffett model....

Yes still here and AHT continues making a mockery of my analysis!!

As to 'the gaps' to-day just adds another to the list. As to what type of gap to-day's is we will perhaps be able to ascertain at the end of the day when the volume is known.

In the meantime it's upward and onward.

Broken out to all time highs - some decent broker upgrades coming imo

From Dow Jones:

"The company said that its end markets were in the early stages of recovery, up around 8% year on year, and that it was growing ahead of that, with same-store growth of 17% as it continues to win market share, in part through opening new branches and making small acquisition...."

breakout the rising resistance line on the 2-year chart - target purely from that would be ~£12.

there you go - much cheaper and quicker than these analysts, and I've no position so not talking a tale to assist my clients either :)
