Large earthquakes could be triggered by a FULL MOON: Biggest shakes in history occurred around spring tides

Sounds like a 'popular belief' rather than anything which has any significant scientific basis!!It was a strong quake, but some distance away, let's hope there isn't any significant damage to the mine... Seems unlikely, if there was anything serious they would have put out a weekend RNS, IMO. Hopefully just a bit of shaking and at worst some minor damage.

There is usually stronger earthquakes when we are about to get a full moon...

One researcher offers a succinct answer. There’s a popular belief that earthquakes are more frequent when the moon is close to full. The explanation is that a full moon has the strongest tidal pull, which supposedly places more stress on the Earth’s crust and increases the chances that a fault may slip.

There would have been some strong shakes but that's all.

We were promised news on AIM-listed Turkish Gold-producer Ariana (AAU) and its proposed corporate action involving Proccea and Ozaltin by the end of this month. At 7am there was nothing and the shares started to slide sharply, especially because CEO Kerim Sener has been selling shares. But fear not.....Needless to say, had Kerim Sener been selling shares and no – or bad – news followed that would have raised an eyebrow. But I still believe his sale was to finance the take-up of the rest of his options so that he can benefit from the proposed corporate action – and the special dividend we are promised, which I believe will amount to something around 0.75p per share. In any case, I believe Kerim Sener to be one of most decent and honest CEOs on the AIM Casino so I was quit relaxed about this.Had there been no news to offer today, Ariana should have said so. So the lack of an RNS suggested that one was on the way and it was not going to say the proposed deal is off. Finally, at 10.49am, we learnt that the proposed joint venture partners are meeting today to finalise the terms. In other words, the deal is still very much on. It has been a very long process and will take a little longer, not helped by the uncertainty over travel restrictions and other Covid-19 related matters, but inch-by-inch they are getting there. The good news is that in the meantime Ariana's coffers are being well filled by operations at Kiziltepe so whist annoying, the delay does have its upside.Ariana reconfirmed that it will be getting $35.75 million as part of the deal, and says that two processes remain outstanding – an application to the competition authority and approvals for the change of ownership – before the final JV can be agreed formally. Once that is in place, a Circular will be published and assuming Ariana's merry band of shareholders wave it all through at a General Meeting, the special dividend can be sorted out (which itself is likely to take a little time as I gather Court approval will be needed).I had hoped it would be all over by Christmas. Maybe that was a tad optimistic, but a little more patience should be well rewarded and the appearance of said Circular should spark a re-rate well before the deal is finally complete. At 5.2p per share I think Ariana once again offers good value for those brave enough to play in gold stocks as the current correction plays out. So I am raising my stance to BUY at up to 5.5p with a short-term target of 7.5p – a 36% gain from 5.5p – with more to come once the Gold bull market resumes as I believe it surely will.

Can't argue with that. Makes me wonder what their PR company yellow jersey are advising them or indeed their brokers. Anyway here's to a better week ahead

The JV delays are pretty disappointing IMO. Not in themselves necessarily, because we have had the pandemic for 9 months obviously, and getting through paperwork in a bureaucratic and somewhat corrupt country like Turkey will always be slow. What disappoints me is that having announced just a few weeks ago that they would have the JV ready for putting to shareholders at the end of Oct, not only has that not been delivered but it now seems that there are still 2 significant permits outstanding! The company have dropped the ball on comms in my opinion - they should have made it much clearer earlier what the true situation was.Having said that, the volume spike today would suggest to me that we will (hopefully) find support around 5p pending further news. And as always, the golden lining of the delay is that every day that passes means thousands more dollars in our bank account...NAI etc

Cyberbub,

that's a much more reasoned and articulated argument than your earlier one.

Gerry Stewart, I'm very well aware of the history of 1974 in Cyprus. My point is that an investment in the EU/Greek side, with all that government's weaknesses, is surely safer than an investment in a breakaway semi-state which is unrecognised legally by any country except Turkey, and without whose military and economic support it would probably collapse?

Armageddon
noun: a dramatic and catastrophic conflict, especially one seen as likely to destroy the world or the human race.

If that happens, I for one really won't be too concerned about the value of my Ariana shares.

This company, like Turkey, will go down with the ship if we do have an Armageddon.
Lighthouse ? More like the sound of a foghorn. The Turkish economy is in tatters, just like Iran's.

The boy stood on the burning deck and all that.

This company will be a lighthouse for holders in the mist of a perfect storm in the coming months. While markets crash upon the rocks in the waves of bad news, with CV19, inflation, unemployment, negative interest rates, civil unrest. A safe haven delivering comfort and security to all who have the faith to follow the light. IMHO of course. Steady as she goes captain.

No worries Biggles. I've tried to be clear all the way through that I have no issues with what they are doing, I am as confident as the next person, in fact I topped up at 5p this morning, just so frustrating as a LTH to see the mess they made this week of what is a transformational period for us. Have to remember the only way this will rocket is with new investment and this weeks shenanigans won't be a great advert for that. We all want the same thing, some of us just more frustrated than others I think :).

Cyberhub,

Not wholly in sympathy with your explicit ref. to the southern part of Cyprus as being 'good' and the implicit assumption that the Northern part is, by extension, 'bad'. Maybe a little research on why the Turks went into northern Cyprus and what was likely to have happened to the Turkish Cypriots if they hadn't might allow for a little less bias and prejudice.

Kaos I posted on this a week ago. The Magellan (main) projects are firmly in the Greek (safe/EU) part of Cyprus, but the Mariner projects are butted up against the Turkish Cyprus border (still the good side though).
