3put: why would you care whether I’m pleased? I would be, if small investors were using the opportunity to flee the scene. Sadly, the share price rise suggests the opposite is happening.

HITS: if it pans out as you expect, I think the FCA will need to get involved. It’s risky, I’d say. In any case, the same people would be putting up the required cash in a placing, at a higher price. I’m not sure that makes sense - though anything’s possible, cuds and his friends might buy some from them I suppose: Jamesll might average down by topping up knowing, as he does, that he can thus delay making a loss on his enlarged holding. What’s the betting the parties they’ve been discussing a bid with are the two Earls, at a price of 1p. Even that’s no bargain, they’d want the £2.5mm. back for decommissioning, what?

I think they’ve run out of money, or just about. You don’t organise the sale of your company and/or its hydrocarbon assets while the market is significantly undervaluing them, do you? Surely even the interim MD can see the absence of any logic whatever in this statement? At this rate he’ll have to change the family motto to “Angus Delendum Est”, what, what?

Any bid would involve a serious period of due diligence and Angus are over the same barrel again, they can’t afford delays.

You have to doff the old cap to the boys with the barrows, though, don’t you? A fantastic ramp in the teeth of an unfolding disaster. Well done chaps! Jolly good show! I mean to say..

Eastbound volumes via the Yamal-Europe pipeline hit almost 9.9m kWh/h at the Mallnow metering point on the German-Polish border on Tuesday morning, the data showed, up from 5.8m previously.

The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, said last month that Germany was reselling Russian gas to Poland and Ukraine rather than relieving price pressure, blaming German gas importers for the reversal of flows and soaring prices. The German government has declined to comment on Putin’s remarks.

The benchmark Dutch front-month gas contract was up 32% at €95.20 (£79.40) a megawatt hour (MWh) by mid-afternoon on Tuesday, with the day-ahead contract up €29 at €95.50 MWh.

The UK’s wholesale natural gas benchmark, the National Balancing Point, was up 38% at 236p a therm.

European gas prices have risen by more than 30% on Tuesday, adding to mounting concerns about the cost of heating a home, as supplies that usually come into Europe from Siberia continued to flow eastwards for the 15th day in a row.

The Kremlin has repeatedly denied using Russia’s vast gas resources to turn the screw on Europe, after gas coming through the Yamal-Europe pipeline reversed direction three days before Christmas.

JT Well I have said several times that there are more twists and turns than Snake Pass and more snakes too. I've also expressed my view that this may all have been contrived to some degree rather than just ineptness. We'll have to see how this plays out, whether it's just a ruse or a cheap takeout for the benefit of certain parties or whether any genuine offers are forthcoming.

I've also said for some time that the best chance Anguish have of ever delivering any shareholder value from the current assets is to kick the present incumbents (including all of the non execs) on the BoD into touch and have them replaced by some competent management. The current lot can then go chase Geothermal Rainbows for the next 5 to 10 years as they wish.

The timing of the share authority for an emergency placing and now this news of interested suitors is all clearly just a remarkable coincidence - it cannot possibly be to get the discount placing away at a higher margin...
