I'd say the US is almost certainly headed for a slowdown. Margins are being squeezed massively by inflation and wage pressures. S&P earnings seem likely to be down 15% in 23, apply a not unusual PE of 15 and you'd expect SPY at 3,000 to reflect that. A recession combined with sticky inflation should be very positive for gold, not so for copper though, but a recession triggers the option for stimulus and I'd expect that to be tilted toward electrification initiatives. So miners with a gold/copper blend look in a good spot to me

Start of negotiations quantifying exploitation to date of mineral’s in Khojaly, albeit with azergold in tow, perhaps a prelude to returning to Karabah…

Discussions held in Khojaly with Russia’s peacekeepers on illegal exploitation of minerals

During the discussions, serious concerns and dissatisfaction were again expressed in connection with the illegal exploitation of minerals in the framework of illegal economic activities carried out in the territories of Azerbaijan, where Russian peacekeeping forces are temporarily deployed. In this regard, the importance of monitoring, inventory of property and environmental studies at the fields where illegal mining is carried out was emphasized.

He does not seem to be betting on AAZ or PMs Pogue!!

I hope I am wrong, but I think folks are calling the FED pivot too soon, and that there is another (I hope a final) period of PM weakness to come.

Its all very disconcerting, because governments are borrowing more than ever, and I fear that the rate hikes actually have more to do with enabling future govt bond issues to be got away at decent prices than bringing down inflation. And when the bond markets get bumpy, central banks continue to pitch in as buyers, as witness the BoE recently. So no change there.

Looked at in that way, the FED is doing a pretty good job: the real interest rates at which the US govt is borrowing new money are lower than ever (heavily negative, the most negative they have ever been) and the accumulated debt pile is bing inflated down at the expense of the bond holders. It is so vast (as is the UK's) that there are only two ways forward - default (ruinous and unthinkable) or inflation.

So gold's time will come, but not just yet I think. I hope I am right as I sold all my trading gold last week (though I retain my permanent 'core' holding).

Meanwhile, the rest of the world is being bled white by high energy prices (paid for in dollars). The USA creates dollars for nothing and sells them to the rest of the world. A highly profitable business for the USA. It is a wonderful thing to be the owner of the world's reserve currency, which you can create for nothing and sell at face value. China et al are getting tired of it though, and all good things eventually come to an end.And of course, but for the present the USA is also flogging us their gas to their allies (their enemies buy gas and oil war cheaper from Russia, via China and India) at prices far higher than US citizens and manufactures pay, giving them a huge trading advantage too, offsetting the headwind of the high dollar for their exporters while they enjoy cheap imports.

So gold's time will come. But not just yet I think. I hope I am right, as I sold my trading gold last week, while hanging on to my permanent core holding.

John Lee a respected investor for many years says dont panic over crashes... usual stuff however he has been buying lately

'...over the past six months I have bought large-caps Aviva, Legal & General, Phoenix, and Smith & Nephew, and added to small-caps Anpario, Christies, Concurrent, Manolete and Vianet, plus a small initial purchase of global kettle control manufacturer Strix, taking advantage of lower prices.'

I hold MANO and was contemplating Strix, KETL, I wonder when he bought assume this week who knows. Article dated 30th Nov day of KETL profit warning.

Poolbeg, POLB, a company I have highlighted a few times is getting near a result and its share price will react one way or another,
Below is a weekend watch its 2 hours long and is the capital markets day for POLB. Best part is the Q&A near the end and highlights how good their POLB001 drug is on the way to being proved effective against cytokine storms in flu the results of the trial are this month and I believe will be a positive inflection point for the share which has had a run up from lows where it was at money in the bank levels. The one point that is never mentioned in any presentation by POLB is the fact that cytokine storms are what kills the patient in covid though in the Q&A JS does stress the fact they are looking at other diseases and have patents on those they are looking at....
It is not a one trick pony by any means however unlike other small drug developers and has a pipeline of drugs and access to a unique database of data that is being mined by a 3rd party to identify compounds that maybe effective against other diseases. This is a very effective platform for discovering drugs very quickly.

All in my opinion and for entertainment only, I am not a financial advisor, I hold shares in the company, do your own research, don't believe a word anonymous posters put on financial chat rooms.

Edit
here is a link to Lemming Investors website where you can download a copy of the latest research note by Singer on POLB, its pretty short so is a good summary.

Marchale have valued their investment in Future Biogas at only £236k on the balance sheet - what do you think it is worth?

And £2.8m for their stake in Weardale Lithium..

Shell has agreed to buy Europe’s largest biogas producer for €1.9bn in the UK oil major’s latest effort to diversify its energy portfolio and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. The deal for Denmark’s Nature Energy is a sign of the industry’s growing interest in so-called renewable natural gas after rival BP last month announced the planned $4.1bn acquisition of Archaea Energy, a US-listed biogas producer...

At some point this 'anomaly' in the US labour market will fully reveal itself - I don't see the govt. being able to maintain the illusion all the way to their next election.

Gold generally goes well end December thru end March each year so, come on AAZ please, let's get geared up for a prodn. push from both Vejnaly & Hasan and tell us what the grades are at a Gilar + maiden resource figure.

Hi Wan,

Sorry, I don't know anything about Marchale Captial. They are a private equity fund?

They appear to make small advisory revenues, which don't cover admin expenses, but have a sizeable investment in Weardale Lithium (and others?) on the balance sheet that they are valuing above the current market cap of the business.

If you believe the value they have attributed to investments is realistic then it appears 'good value' - are Weardale Lithium listed on the stock exchange?
