13/6/2022 08:13 | "gripping the side-rails and holding on through the summer" fund managers statement of the day,,, from the telebox :-) LOL :-) oh, another gem :-) "room to fall further, we've gone in a couple of weeks from a market that was starting to believe the central banks could deliver a soft landing to a market which recognises at best they can sort of land this thing on the proverbial Hudson" oh what a game this is chaps :-) that said, he is adding to his gold holdings as portfolio protection,,,, thinks current price of gold is attractive!!! recession is coming and will be the method by which inflation will be brought down!!!! GLA Cheers Wan :-) | wanobi

13/6/2022 07:40 | STCM - Dividend proposal The Board wishes to recommend the distribution of a 5p dividend in respect of 2021. However new regulations in Malaysia have created uncertainty about the tax treatment of foreign sourced dividend income for Malaysian corporates - meaning that income to Steppe Cement Sdn Bhd may be subject to a 24% withholding tax. Therefore before declaring the dividend, the Board is waiting for clarification regarding the exemption to this tax. It is the understanding of the Board that confirmation from the Malaysian authorities will be forthcoming shortly. The Kazakh subsidiaries already pay 20% profit tax in Kazakhstan. If the tax issue cannot be resolved without payment of the 24% rate, the Board will evaluate other means of returning capital to shareholders. Cheers Wan :-) | wanobi

13/6/2022 07:25 | 2sp: Taiwan is ethnically and geographically Chinese Native Taiwanese are south pacific islanders. There has been a lot of Chinese immigration, but you may as well say Australia is ethnically British. Geographically it's not Chinese at all. Look at the map, it's more connected to the Philippines. likewise [pre 1949 anyway] historically. Not true at all. It was part of China from 1945 to 1949. From 1895 to 1945 it was Japanese. Before that it was at different times Chinese, Dutch and independent. Even the USA politicos acknowledge "One China". No, they acknowledge China's position that there is one China. It's not their own position. | zangdook
13/6/2022 07:15 | Yes, but the dividend uncertainty is a pain. | zangdook

12/6/2022 21:54 | Starting point so far... | odsjp
12/6/2022 21:46 | jeanesy - I have no problem with you going into cash for the week. I think that I am in the same boat as you and that there are not many of us in the real world who are having a good year. You only have to look at the benchmarks to see that. Ironically I am currently doing better in the competition (flat), then in the real world as I guess are you with a £40k balance in the comp (up some 30+% over the beginning of the year) which is an achievement in itself and sitting in 2nd position. I think I would also sell a lot of my portfolio at the moment but still believe in them in the longer term. All it would take is a bit of good news (end of war in Ukraine) for a temporary reprieve but I don't see that happening any time soon and only bad news coming. We have the US and UK interest rate decision this week with an expectation of an increase in rates. Will that hit the markets or are they expecting it. Who knows? Sideshowbull - I am happy for you to join the competition and allocate you the full £30K if you want, please let me know. What I would do is mark you in a different colour as you would automatically join in 6th position (yes, only five of us are above our £30K start point) and I also see that BIRD is down almost 50% since the start of the year so can understand 1knocker's position of saying it is not fair. For the competition this week I am going to stick with THG. It is down 14% this week after a number of positive weeks and any suitors have until Thursday to table a bid. I am not sure a bid will come and might be down heavily at the end of next week or I might be smiling. I find it difficult in the real world to decide what to do. Take my current profit, hope there is no bid or sell half or just not sell anything. Cash is king at the moment but is it worth liquidating at current prices? | odsjp
12/6/2022 20:57 | I stick as usual. Just waiting for mine to come good. I believe I'm close to important news on various counts from profitable Ariana Resources (AAU). I'm pleased to see Good grief still holds Atlantic Lithium (ALL) like me. Been a bit lack lustre of late but news can't be far away and then the next leg up hopefully. I would like to include Base Resources but it is too binary. If it gets approval in Madagascar hopefully due very soon it will light up imo. I'm hoping San Leon will come out of suspension soon. That would be a pick of mine if it wasn't delisted. | plasybryn
12/6/2022 20:05 | odjsp I know that some say this is not in the spirit of the game but i would like to go all in cash this week. In the real world i am losing money hand over fist. I would sell most of my portfolio if most of my stocks were not so far under water ! | jeanesy
12/6/2022 19:55 | True. Sorry. I have a few other dogs on the list above I hold , but definitely won't win anything this week or even this decade. BWTFDIK | sideshowbull
12/6/2022 19:45 | I am not sure its quite 'cricket' to enter now with 75% of us poor comp punters already underwater over the first half of the year sideshowbull !!! | 1knocker
12/6/2022 19:30 | FOMC 14th/15th MPC 16th What can we expect on rates, a pause after last month or another raid on disposable incomes..? | laurence llewelyn binliner
12/6/2022 19:26 | I think they have cracked this selection business. 1. Appoint each team member in turn as captain and then sack him in favour of the next. It will only take 10 tests (each captain being sacked and replaced with another after one test) before the whole team is batting like a bunch of Roots/Bradmans. 2. Only select Quick bowlers from those in their late thirties or older. | 1knocker
12/6/2022 18:43 | odsjp - I have never entered your comp, would you mind sticking me in as a dark horse "all in BIRD" BIRD AIM stock . All in. BWTFDIK | sideshowbull
