Did anybody take a look at my wildcard entry for the yearly competition OMI?

Looks like it might start to really motor if somebody gets a sniff of drilling results.

40 million cars, and I've read that each one uses approx 100kg of copper, so that's 4 million tonnes of copper pa, with current production circa 20 million tonnes pa, and according to Fitch expected to rise by 3% pa.

The demand for the cars plainly will increase the demand for copper, but it seems to me that the infrastructure to supply power to these vehicles will consume even more copper, although of course on a one off basis. If copper becomes very expensive I would expect the car companies to create their own recycling systems. Perhaps a good line to be in now is motor rewinds? It should be a steady growth industry for a long time to come.

Anyway it does AAZ no harm at all to have access to a 10,000 tonne pa copper mine. Say a gross $8000 per tonne price = gross $80 million, even if only a quarter of that hits the bottom line, then $20 million pa is not to be sniffed at. Somebody please explain to me why AAZ is being given away at £164 million!

Hi,Wan and all other contributors.
Firstly I must congratulate all that made profits out of Crypto Currency.
I am a bit old to learn new things now.
I never invested in any of it because I just don't understand it and I don't want to learn either.
I am quite happy holding what I have in my portfolio. AVCT being the top performer. It is the bottom line in the portfolio that counts.
I did a nice top up in PUR this AM.
Just taking life as it comes. I have had one jab here. It is the Chinese one!!
Apologies re O/T.
GLA in whatever you are invested in.
Stay safe.
ATB.

From memory, wasn’t Bittibulag (Gedabek CA)also earmarked as a prospective copper find.

Seems the dots are joining up toward a porphyry system and will be interesting should that system cross the boundary of Gedabek CA as would entitle Aaz access to mine any extensions.

JB2 - that's another reasonable guess. I think the point is that there are lots of potential explanations that aren't sinister.

Are you refering to Kashen DP?

The producing mine in ~Kyzlkabakh/Gyzilkabakh with ~250k-t of copper reserves, operated illegally by Vallex an armenian Co., in NK province, having spent maybe $130mn on plant in recent years?
But even JB can't say how/when the plant/mine may be taken over by GoA/AAZ.

In gedabek CA there's plenty Cu to go from the main pit + the new Zafar prospect just 1.5km from plant....sample of 113m thick 0.5% cu + 0.7g/t gold which looks to be excellent Copper concentrate feed.
A few km NW there's Ugur deeps; plenty Cop./silv. by looks and easy access; a few more km to NE there's Avshancli 3+2 Cu/Gold prospect, again being targeted for development/prod.
So, the main issue may be whether to expand the flotation/related plant and by how much?

Has anyone looked at TPG? Well established company, generally underpriced when looking at the sum of it's parts, maybe spread a little thin across a lot of areas. But the kicker for me is the hydrogen trains it's involved in. Although still a small part of the business, the market seems to have largely missed it, so isn't trading at the premium of most hydrogen related businesses.

The govt has already moved away from electrifying the proposed Cambridge-Oxford line with a view to using hydrogen.

I saw in the Telegraph a couple of weeks ago Honest John in the car pages saying "don't buy diesel" just like that in response to a reader question. It just shows how quickly things can change.

So I've no doubt copper will be in strong demand for a long time. It's been something that has almost been overlooked at AAZ, but it would be good to know how easy it is to increase production. And isn't one of the new mines pretty much solely a copper mine?

I think that's not an unreasonable assumption - I don't make the leap from that to TESLA being good value as ARK do - but that's why I like EV commodity plays - there's going to be a mega car war between incumbent producers and new tech focused competitors - so in a war don't back a side, buy the bullets

Well that’s me and Mode, I’ve been thinking about it and decided I’m not going to be greedy, tbh I’m barely understanding the tech or how it generates profit. So as I’ve more than doubled my money, (probably near trebled, but can’t be bothered to work out all the trades), I’m just going to cash in on the hype.

So will probably go to the moon now, but I’m out and content.

probably only seeing Copper start to stir into action given likely trajectory of EV unit sales over the coming 25 years

As Bill reminded the audience in the video, AAZ has plenty of Copper

Reza goes on to say...

The Company is now very focused on growing its business by both leveraging its presence in Azerbaijan and deploying its reliable cash flow elsewhere. In Azerbaijan, there are two parts to our strategy: to increase production from our existing concessions and to obtain new concessions. We have reported extensively on our exploration programme at Gedabek and elsewhere. Our efforts are starting to yield results and have already led to new discoveries. To bring these discoveries into production takes time and we have announced our expected timelines. The original Gedabek discovery within the production sharing agreement currently extends to March 2022, but it can be extended for a further 10 years and we have already started the formalities for this extension. The Company expects this renewal to be routine and in accordance with the existing agreement. We continue to operate the Gedabek mine on the basis that an extension is forthcoming.

The second part of our expansion strategy in Azerbaijan is to extend our existing concessions. We have had discussions with the Government of Azerbaijan who appear to be well disposed to granting us further exploration areas. We have also begun the legal work to determine how any new concessions can be incorporated into our existing production sharing arrangement. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed these discussions throughout the first half of 2020, they have been wide-ranging and our relationship with the Government of Azerbaijan remains strong. We are working together to maximise the benefit of Azerbaijan's abundant natural resources for both parties.

@TTM
I have to say I do wonder if the approach/prospective approach to AAZ was simply because they knew what was about to happen re the soon to be liberated territories.
As it is, it seems they decided the price was too much even before AAZ became aware that we were about to get them back.
Shows just how much value Reza sees in the business.

From rns 23rd June 2020....

AGM 2020 - Letter from Reza Vaziri to Shareholders of the Company...

We were required to acknowledge publicly in August 2019 that the Government of Azerbaijan had announced it had appointed advisors with regard to a possible transaction with Anglo Asian Mining. There have been no significant subsequent events requiring further announcements by us. Nevertheless, I can assure shareholders that it is the Company's understanding that the Government of Azerbaijan has no intention to nationalise, purchase or otherwise take control of Anglo Asian Mining or its assets in Azerbaijan.

If Azerbaijan is now going to auction new contract areas, it's not unreasonable to think Azerbaijan was assessing its options generally not so long ago. If nationalising the industry was one option then investigating what would be needed to regain the AAZ concessions is not much of a stretch of the imagination.

And now they are auctioning CAs and the takeover idea has gone away.

This might be completely the wrong reason, but if it is then it sounds reasonable enough to me.

What does catch my attention is the idea that AAZ might bid for new CAs.
