I have also found that scaling in helps a great deal if the stock you want to own starts to fall after your initial purchase,,,, for example 4D's falling share price I'm viewing as something I want more of getting cheaper rather than something I'm all in with losing me money, on paper :-) Cheers Wan :-)

I suppose, upon reflection,,,, doing the hard thing with AAZ is actually being in too far,,,, I fight the emotion on that one to scale down :-) LOL,,,, as I said, a real head banger :-) LOL Cheers Wan :-)

KS - FOMO is a big emotion to get to grips with and I find I have to force myself to manage it,,,, as an example, AVCT, I literally was shouting at myself to scale it down, bank some geat profits, buy leave enough to enjoy further rises and not beat myself up with 100% FOMO by 100% selling out and likewise, should it crash and burn I'd be ok losing everything I now hold in it as I already have the profit in he bank,,,, I have to force myself to do the hard disciplined stuff...... with, the exception of AAZ, which, hmm,,, I'm in too far, but just feel more confident with it I suppose.... its a real head banger, all this stuff,,,, but, being right or wrong matters not so long as you make and bank profits,,,, make real gains,,, if you are doing that then you are right.... Cheers Wan :-)

Taken a few TILS at 80, but tight stop on this one.

Stroll - tax liability money, could be. Or maybe a vanity project gone a little awry, so far.

Kk - I can't decide whether I would feel worse seeing profits evaporate than I would if I saw the stocks take off and I only had half my position in them. I guess I am perhaps greedy and FOMO takes precedence! I keep telling myself, when I have 'enough' I will scale down my positions, but realistically, 'enough' is never enough is it!

I anticipate being in this game for another 10 years at least, give or take, unless things go spectacularly well, or badly. This is why I don't like the idea so much of dipping in and out of longer-term prospects.

The 2nd chartered flight was arranged last Friday; the gold flown into Switzerland over the weekend.
Dunno if the price was agreed with the refiners pre flight or when the gold reached them.
Whatever, it will be close to $1700/oz, so ~$6.7mn revenue [$7.5mn-12.5%] for the ~4,500oz. Think it will have been 90% payment on delivery, the balance a little later.

So, appx. another $4.3mn net op. cash.

Makes sense - selling bit by bit as shares reach fair value and scaling in on the way up, in theory? :)

I suppose I have done the scaling in part as I have been using spare disposable income each month over the years to build my pot. Never had a big chunk to begin with!

It would seem logical, not to be selling gold stocks in this price environment, but we saw many of them dropping by half in quick time when market panic sets in - not sure how you can build a logical strategy around this?

It feels like a bull run in the gold price, but not a bull run in the share price of junior miners just yet..

Just been to the shop to finally snag some Yorkshire gold tea - feeling more sanguine after a cup - it really is the best imo! Anyone find a better brand?

ks the thing you have to ask yourself is now that your back in profit, how would you feel if it all became a paper loss again. Everyone knows the market will tank again. Have you considered taking half off the table. My strategy is different where I set a price I'm happy to sell at and if reached, If at this point I do not see more good news then I sell at my target. Everyone has a system that works for them. Good luck with whatever you do.

KS - taken from the book; 'Bill Lipschutz, attributed his ability to stay with good long term trades to his use of scaling-out orders; 'it has enabled me to stay with long term winners much longer than I've seen most traders stay with their positions', avoid the temptation of wanting to be completely right. By shunning all or nothing decisions and instead scaling in and scaling out of positions, you will never get the best outcome, but you will never get the worst one, either....

hope it helps you :-)

cheers
Wan :-)

For Stroll, its probably tax liability money that he will now effectively sidestep by this action so, it was 'lost' money for him anyway.

Thanks all.

Reason I asked that question is because I feel I am much more suited to long term investing - analysing in detail and keeping tabs on progress etc, but I don't feel like this is a good long-term market, even though I feel I am invested in stocks that have good long-term potential.

I was near 100% up over the last few years before Covid-19 hit and almost all of those gains were wiped out in a couple of weeks, which was galling. But I sat on my hands and am now not far off being back to where I was before the crisis hit - thanks to a few extra tips like AVCT.

So - what to do now. Part of me wants to go mostly to cash and sit and watch the market for 12 months, but when it comes to selling my shares I just look at their prospects and think, no way - they are no where near reaching potential.. don't have the skills/mentality for short-term trading, although I try with small amounts just to get a feel for it.

I am not liking the look of this gold movement north.
That means more money, which normally means a lower share price

TXP - post by russ (many thanx HBR) on main TXP thread,,,,, Cheers Wan :-)

Touchstone Exploration CEO Paul Baay on firm’s recent progress and huge plans for Trinidad’s energy market (TXP)

'Speaking to ValueTheMarkets, Baay noted:

“We’ve agreed to make it a depletion contract. What that means is that any of the gas that’s found on the [Ortoire] block will get sold to NGC and in exchange for that, they will build all the pipelines in gathering systems for that gap in production.

A key document will be produced over the next month, Baay says. This will describe pricing, time, and any deductions necessary. Both sides want this deal done quickly, before the end of May. '
