I am tempted to blame it on the quality of the contestants on the Apprentice.

I think there is a misunderstanding among investors and the press in regard to what AMT are designing for Sky. All the talk refers to a HDTV PVR. If you look at the AMT interim statement, it is talking about two products, not one. "Deliveries of an HDTV PVR box are due to commence in the second half of the financial year. We are in the final stages of developing a new PVR box which should leave us well placed for the future."
AMT's original statement in July 05 said "Amstrad PLC said it has agreed to develop and supply a new PVR set top box with BSkyB, adding it will sell "significant volumes" of the new product in the year to June 2007"

I believe AMT have two products for Sky. First the MPEG4 HD-PVR which is an advanced product, only made by a very few companies, all who have struggled to deliver with much larger R&D budgets than AMT. There could be further delays here or Thomson who has almost a years experience of deployments could have undercut AMT's price.
Secondly I would speculate, based upon AMT's and Sky's statements that Sky requires a Hybrid IPTV PVR stb like the BT Vision product. This I believe is the new PVR that was originally talked about in the July 05 statement. This is also a technically complicated stb whose mass adoption is potentially restricted in part by the broadband network. Other delays may occur due to Virgin's and others complaints to Ofcom about Sky's proposed withdrawal of Sky programming off Freeview.

Declaration: I only hold shares in Pace and follow Amstrad Amino and ANT waiting for investment opportunities.

Could be that we will hear that the HDTV box shipments are going to be delayed even longer...

No; but there either is a big seller; bad news coming, or problems in the sector with another company. I've no idea really, hopefully someone is better informed than me.

I can see £3 or higher within two years depending upon the Sky' DTT service and whether AMT can use this knowledge to sell to other DTT service providers throughout Europe. A wider spread of the customer base would justify an increase in the p/e ratio.
Development risks, delays or regulatory problems for AMT or Sky could see a downside of £1 in a worse case scenario.

At what share price did AMT peak at during the TMT price bubble?

I bought at £1.60-ish (and got the large dividend).
I'm hoping for £3 in a year or two plus all the big dividends on the way.
Its in my PEP / ISA so its all easy money.

I'm not a BIG INVESTOR as of course "hi-tech" has its BIG ups and downs.
But its obviously a good bargain at these levels (under £2.50). Nice profits, nice dividends and low price, what more can an investor ask for?

Power would probably have higher regard for AMT if he had bought at sub 50p rather than £5+. What AMT do well they do very well and their profit and dividends back this up. The over reliance on a single customer is bad business practice but A.S. does not really care as he has a tight little empire which he can control and enough cash in the bank to carry AMT though any lean times if they occur.
In the interim results AMT said "The Group currently manufactures outside the EU" so I don't understand Power's "close most of their factory" quote.

.....packing department to efficiently ship the foreign made goods, they'll never make money

Errr what? Amt make lots of profit, lots of cash, and have a massive cash pile, even after giving away many millions to shareholders a few months ago.

FFS, get back to planet earth.

Where do alll these brainless knockers come from? And why? Why do people prefer to slag off a very well run, profitable company, instead of investing in it and making themselves some money? Nowt stranger than folk.

dip-stick power,i won my bet at work,i said how you would answer my post, you feel safe behind your screen, thats intelligent for you,i have more invested in this drab firm then your home cost, why dont you ask the person who gave you the value of my home, the future of amstrad,if you have money in this drab firm as you put it,you must have bought into it when it was £7+ to be still holding with such a low opinion of amstrad,i bought my millions at 8p & 19p,done very well with the special divi they paid out,i did not need to check my bonds, the winnings came automatically, only £50,i would love to work for sir sugar,he has always done, what seems to be the opposite to you,got on with his life, took a chance, the rest is history,i think to sum it all up dippy, the clean my shoes bit,is because you think you are better then anyone else, above them, and at a guess, you have put every penny you have into this share, now cheer up,the taxes are going up soon.

GRIM shore. What a strange reply from a self styled investor, ratifies you're a prat. I guess you are an employee of Sugars beleagured firm, so pop off and clean my shoes as well please.
Such inane replies indicate you're an insignificant investor, whose investment is so small as to be irrelevant to anyone. . I have more invested in this drab firm than your home cost. I suggest your time would be better spent reading and learning from the odd good post that intelligent people have kindly researched and given time to writing. Have you checked your premium bonds recently.
Stop filling the thread with garbage.

Hi nob
The forward p/e for 2007 is 12.4.
EPS were 16.9 in 2005 and 18.4 in 2006. The Broker EPS consensus for this year is 13.05p and 16.02 for 2008.
I think there may be a chance of a broker upgrade for 2008 based upon my earlier waffle.
Do short term risks and the possibility of a relatively poor H2 mean there is more downside risk than upside gain for the next couple of months?
Darrin.

When compared to the FTSE 100, Amstrad including dividends has underperformed over 1, 2 and 3 year periods. Different entry and exit points would have produced better returns.
I had hoped my waffle may stimulate debate or discussion that may help us all to make more educated investment decisions.
