BBC - this morning says sales of HDTV have increased 250% - one every 15 seconds - via Currys (for world cup).

It really is increasing sales - hugely (and Italy too - I guess)

if italy do well so will Amstrad.
if England do well so will Amstrad.
if Brazil do well so will Amstrad.
(Brazil has more Italians then any other nation - over 30 million Italians).
If Argentina do well so will Amstrad.
(for above reason)

Pace announced that deliveries had started on May 22nd to Sky Italia. Broadcasting started on May 17th. Pace have a modified version of the Sky Italia box for sale across Europe including Britain which can be used to pick up most of the free HD channels but not the Sky HD subscription channels .
Neither the AMT or the PIC stb has a DVR unlike the Thompson box that is being supplied to BSkyB.

Yeah, odd reaction. I suppose PIC managed to deliver to Sky Italia as well - it was all the other stuff to the US that they messed up on.

Still not a reason for the fall - business plan being executed in accordance with strategy. Maybe they were later than expected - we're a bit tight to the start of the World Cup. Or maybe it's just a bit of mugging to get some selling - didn't work, no volume today.

Added some more to the spreadbet towards the close.

Have noticed that whenever AMT share price drops - especially on low volume - by a good few pennies it is followed by large buy orders.

Is it possible that brokers / MMs manipulate share price for large buyers?

Agree - AMT provides a solid home and platform for future share price growth and income growth through the divi.

It is clear - especially with the ongoing bundling of Communication services - broadband - tv - mobile and fixed line - that the demand for Set Top boxes is set to grow and grow and grow and of course lest not forget HD TV and the stated timeframe of moving everyone onto a digital TV format!

BUY BUY BUY while the price is CHEAP

BLT,
Well if the other makers are having problems (unexpected problems) its possibly because Sugar has put CASH down to get the components whereas the others are all on 60 to 90 day credit terms. We do know if there is a shortage of components Sugar has a CASH MOUNTAIN to spend.

I think that puts us in the driving seat.

Plus AMT was the HONEST company in saying AGES ago that it was not ready to deliver whereas PIC and Thompson appeared to be saying "sure sure whatever you want" and not delivering. This ia all good news for AMT.

The Tax thing is not relevant unless AMT say it is (which they haven't).

The possible customs charge is 14%. It is not a retrospective re-interpretation but it may be introduced as early as July 2006

Just had notification that SKy HD installation (Thomson are suppliers) is to be delayed until middle of World Cup - apparently due to delays in boxes arriving. Not good for business, really, is it?

Won't do them any favours with Sky in future, nor will PIC's problems. The import duty thing is interesting, but overall, both PIC's and Thomson's problems can only be good for Amstrad - as long as they don't also screw up.

Maybe, more by accident than design, AMT were playing a smart game in not trying to be first - and stuff up their reputation by not delivering, with so many variables outside of their control, notably their own suppliers, eg software, chips etc.

Dunno - but looking good today.

If AMT are tied into a fixed price for the stb's then AMT may end up paying for the customs charge.
Could the "potential re-interpretation" charges be retrospective?
All Amt stb sales are into the EC and I assume the stb's are made outside the EC.
