Exactly Chipperfrd... At $1950 today, the POG is actually lagging where it should be, just to keep up with its long term average .. never mind the massive money-printing of the last 10 years...!

Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR)

Gold price in 1971 = US$35
Current gold price = US$1,944
Period = 49 years
CAGR = 8.5% per year

Silver price in 1971 = US$1.55
Current silver price = US$26.3
CAGR = 5.9% per year

No Kev, 5% would be the rate if the POG went from $1900 in 2011, to $3000 today! In other words, people saying POG couldn't possibly rise to $3000 in the short term need to realise that it's only a very small annual rise over a decade...

What country has inflation been rising at 5% for the last 9 years? not the UK

I'm with excellance this gives me the chance I have been waiting for to top up on my terms rather than MM's robbing you on volume.

Someone predicted sub 2p not too far off from that now maybe tomorrow it'll get there. Still if gold starts to motor again this may see a slight rise but who knows

still trying to find a bottom here .. why Mr 750k and 500k sellers think it makes sense to sell 2.1 today is beyond me.

Still they cant sell them again

To be honest, I think the only issue surrounding the Mill maintenance was that they didn't pre-warn us in the Q1 update. It didn't stop them getting the stuff out of the ground and I suspect the milling capacity is currently greater than the current mining capacity so things will catch-up during Q3.

The impatient and ignorant will have lost in the longer term.

ODR - That party will be going on for some time and the bride is always late ;-)

I think we are still broadly on track, but the mill issue and gold price correction has taken the icing off the cake for a while. We will rebound.

I'm making no gold price predictions for the future, but anything around the current price makes ALTN v undervalued imo.

I don’t think that there is any doubt that we have had a low inflationary period KS. I know that there is widespread criticism over the basket changes but these things do have to change over time.

$1,920 to $3,000 over 9 years is only 5% inflation a year. I suppose it depends whether you go off 'official' inflation rates or probably more realistic ones?

The last 10 years has been one of the lowest inflationary periods for decades so I don’t think that $1920 in 2011 equates to $3000 now.

yeah gold is doing well again after recent weakness, and will undoubtedly look for a new all time high in coming weeks.

it has been ten year since the last all time high and inflation considered in that time the new all time high needs to be considerably higher, even near to $3000.
