I personally believe it is primarily impatience driving the sells - A lot of wild rises in other PM shares has driven a "grass is greener" mentality. Just 3 months ago we were speculating on gold reaching $2000/oz by year-end - It did that early but slipped back a little and is now consolidated. Professionals are still forecasting a sustained price of $2300/oz in 12 months time - That is plenty!!

The yacht fiasco is just a fly in the ointment and being used as something of a weak excuse to justify a sell.

The 154m shares is my biggest issue (see what I did there?), seems a massive premium to pay for the bond transaction - I would like a little more info on that.

All that said, not a great deal has changed fundamentally - There's still gold in them there hills!!

Fear.

Weakening gold price

Strong equity market on the back of that PMI report

Less than spectacular Q2 numbers

Reports of the family yacht sinking appear to be compounding ths fear factor

154m bounty shares with Zero detail on their issue terms

Profit taking

Loads of negative sentiment here at the moment, so not many buyers to offset the selling.

I'm sure there will be a bounce, and it can't be far off, the weak bladders are almost drained.

Agreed, Redtrend. Reported grades od a gram a ton struck me as a bit of an anticlimax on first reading of the report but was nevertheless blinded into buying more by the prospect of breaking the 3p threshold.

That said, mysterious sinking of a super-yacht in the Med, compounded by sketchy to no reporting on the incident, doesn't help our cause...

Personally I think it correlated more with

1) Q2 report which didn't meet expectations,

2) gold cooling off from 2,000+ and now in low 1,900s, and

3) profit taking partly due to 1) + 2) considering we had a great run from 0.5/0.6 to 2-3p.

It's getting to a very nice buy in point if Q3 does meet all our expectations and should get it back to 3p, but of course that is an "if".

Not sure what could be in the H2 Interims that would propel us, unless there's a heads up on how July and August have gone?

Machiavellian, indeed, this untimely yacht tragedy (tragic for the iconic yacht, that is..). But, is it really true that the fire and sinking of the Lady MM correlates with the recent fall in the ALTN share price? The date on the video attached to the report is 25th August, whereas the ALTYN share price came off its highs quite some time before that, and could be said to have started 'to fall' from around 12th / 13th August, ie. over a week before the yacht fire.

Am I missing something here? Has the seemingly mysterious sinking of the super yacht really spooked the market into dumping ALTN en masse, and perpetuating a plummeting SP, or is this just an uncanny coincidence and a 'godsend' of a buying opportunity..?

Time will tell, as always, but inherent value will always out, if it's there...

I found another article saying that 17 people were rescued in total. It was 8 Kazakhs amongst them, plus the crew presumably. But in any case yes my point was not the yacht fire but the allegations (seem likely to be more than allegations IMO) further down that article. We'll see whether it makes any difference long term. At the end of the day, money (ie gold) talks. If the mine is making big money and the A's want to start paying a nice divi to everyone from next year, including themselves, to gradually pay off their apparent big debts, that's fine by me... Or if they want to get the mine established on an upwards path and sell it for 10p a share next year, that's also fine by me.I suppose the risk is that the Kazakh Govt might seize the mine to pay the As' debts? In a complete takeover maybe minority shareholders would be paid the extant share price for their holdings, to avoid spooking foreign investors? Or maybe the Govt might just seize the As' holdings and become the new 70% holder and the mine carries on as normal, just the govt gets 70% of divis to pay off the debt?Just speculating. It may all come to nothing of course.I do wonder whether JPS or whatever they're called, might be owned by a crony of the Assurbayevs, who are taking most of the 154M shares as an undeclared anti-dilutive holding for themselves??All very Machiavellian!! LOL

Reports last week suggested the family were aboard but are safe. Should blow over, sold another £30k on Tuesday and put into ATYM. Done with the selling for the mo,in for the ride now. Maybe it will raise a for sale flag and realize decent value...............

the dow jones incex ia up 450 points today, and gold is down $35, and i suggest this is the reason ALTN is struggling right now.

the markets are considering whether stimulus and covid 19 will lead to higher gold prices or a higher equities market, and so far they are uncertain about gold.

my guess is that covid will become irrelevant as we adapt to the new reality, but we will see inflation and a rising gold price in due course.

let the dow inflate, it will crash back down before end of year.

This will probably all blow over in a month. MM’s just taking advantage of the situation and so should private investors and ADD IMO

if there was only 8 people onboard at the time of the fire it would appear that only crew were present, but maybe the family were transferred to another boat before hand?

Best to make a judgement here in February 2021 when the H2 2020 production numbers should be in. That should tell us whether the current regime, having secured $27million for Capex production improvements, are delivering; and that 2021 likely numbers can be extrapolated with confidence.

I they can’t, they should hoist up the “ for sale” sign.

If 5.3 million oz reserves and 5 million additional resources ain’t worth more than £50 million with gold at c. $2000, then the world’s gone mad!

I do not think any of us invested here thought the Assaubayev's were attending Church on Sundays. The rumors though do explain the drop from 3p o 1.75p. I think its over done and if anything it would mean a predator is more likely to try and take advantage.

Surely if they need to raise cash for personal reasons that doesn't change the fundamentals of ALTN and in fact could result in the family looking for a takeover of the company, and that would be great for us?

Sclper - the article has an inference, obviously pure conjecture, that the fire may have been for other reasons !

It cites the pension fund going after the Assaubayev's for debts - another article I found says they owe circa £300m to that fund.

Not saying for one minute that I personally go along with those conspiracy theories but as Cyber posted the timings correlate in terms of share price weakness.

Reputational risk remains significant imo and explains, to a degree, the apparent disconnect to perceived market value; but that often presents PIs with the best opportunities so you pays your money....

Don't really see why this would lead to share price weakness. The family didn't go down with the boat and it was most likely insured. Perhaps they will use the proceeds from the claim to invest more into Altyn assuming it was their yacht in the first place.
