21/9/2016 12:11 | NB... Thanks...I think I'm loosing my mind over this FC malarkey there just doesn't seem to be any winners at the moment, they are either in trials with orders like ITM or still in the R&D trials stages, I'll give it till Christmas, time is running out for AFC, CWR, IEH, and maybe ITM they have orders yet market seems sanguine, is it AIM or what. I notice Woodford lamenting at the lack of investment in tech whether he means this, he did hold VLS but sold, not much support from him either. | ![]() beeezzz
21/9/2016 11:56 | bz I posted on ITM on the E.On plant; It is a boiler . not unlike those provided by Bloom Energy in the USA . It does not eliminate CO2 but reduces its output by using alternate fuel feedstock . I would have put my bet on a Thuga, or RWE plant for a 100% clean energy. You are so right, the game is chasing grants | ![]() norbus
21/9/2016 11:50 | Scrut....There are no winners, to date not one FC company has ever made a profit, they live on subsides, grants...and shareholders, I expect this 1.4Mw plant has also received some funding. I believe AFC has one of the cheapest FC technology, and runs at much lower temperatures, although they have problems with heat also. This may help for those wishing to brush up on FC types, no mention of costs involved and as we all know cost is a major factor. | ![]() beeezzz

20/9/2016 16:44 | AFC had better pull there finger out. | ![]() muto
20/9/2016 16:28 | I am completely lost in the proliferation of claims by dozens of FC developers in different countries and the optimum applications for competing processes SOFC,PEM,AFC, not to overlook PAFCS, MCFCS, and CFCs etc. I thought that AFC led the field in the application at Stade, Germany, of FCs producing Industrial power, that ITM led in electrolysis converting surplus energy into stored hydrogen for later use as fuel or to retrieve that energy. As per the post above AFC, surprise, surprise, now seem to have been overtaken by Frauenhofer Tomorrow the clam-like IEH have a Capital Markets Day, ie investor's day at Loughborough when presumably they disgorge some, at least, new information on the application of Hydrogen burning FCs at the micro and macro level. Many hopes are raised and much is expected. Will they be in vain? CWR seems to lead the world in mass producing scalable steel fuel cells at low cost for car drives and domestic heating, and has probably got their cell, inside the H2 FC driven Honda Clarity Sedan seen this week in California.. Whose cells will Daimler be using for the seven models they are are releasing next year? Japan has thousands of installations of clearly unimpressive local design, but are leaning in future on UK technology as is S Korea, as is probably Nissan, Several US firms like Ballard are loss making but already commercial and not obviously in the lead . CFC and ACTA seem to have gone to the wall. Hundreds of millions of £s have evaporated in start up losses and 90% of their capital eroded in the UK. Certainly Parliament is desperately short of MPs with an understanding of science, and .our Government seems to have no understanding of what horses to ride for what courses or we would not have got to Hinkley Point to produce our future needs at double the current available cost level. In the full glare of global publicity Elon Musk may well produce the biggest, whitest elephant of all with his GIGA battery factory and be followed by JLR/Tata Motors with a similar mistake not quite yet made. Does anyone have a clear overview and really know who are the current leaders or winners. Has anyone published on the subject?. | ![]() scrutable
20/9/2016 15:36 | TAKEN FROM THE ITM BOARD (photo HFC POWER PLANT) OPERATIONAL_zps8wakf Virtually emissions-free: an innovative decentralised solution provides FRIATEC AG in Mannheim with clean energy Energy history in the making in Mannheim: The first European fuel cell of megawatt size is now operating there. Contrary to conventional power plants, this energy solution delivers heat and electricity virtually absent of pollutants, making it a milestone for the green energy of the future. The innovative plant, which was jointly installed by E.ON and FuelCell Energy Solutions at FRIATEC AG, was officially put into operation on Monday. Over the course of at least ten years, it will provide clean energy for the production processes of materials specialist FRIATEC. With a capacity of 1.4 megawatts, this fuel cell power plant is the only one of its kind in Europe to date. In terms of technology and environmental protection, fuel cells represent a promising alternative to conventional combined heat and power plants. In comparison with other decentralized technologies such as gas turbines, they use fuel sources far more efficiently. In addition, they generate power in a non-combustion process which is virtually absent of pollutants. By using this fuel cell, FRIATEC will be able to reduce its CO2 emissions by approximately 3,000 tons per year. This corresponds to the CO2 emissions of approximately 250,000 family cars per 100 kilometers. | ![]() scrutable
