MCunliffe1 - you make a valid point about cutting the dividend then buying back shares instead of what it appears - the reverse.

But that logic does not apply as they are not looking after the interests of shareholders they look after the interests of those institutions who want to sell shares.

Your sensible suggestion would see the rats jumping ship for less and the loyal shareholders being rewarded.

So often the buybacks instead reward the rats and penalise the loyal.

Its going to be interesting if share price is around this level on xd day, we could see new lows being found. I will be tempted to average down in the 130's, has to be a takeover target at that price. I'd echo the sentiments of others regarding the CEO's performance, changing the name was ludicrous and made him look a bit silly.

I will be disappointed if they sell more PHNX stock just to pay the dividend.
They might just as well distribute that £500m stake as a special in-specie dividend.

Definitely below £1.50 later on .
The share price has been doing extremely badly for the past few years , sad to say the least

A drop of 2.2p below the present 151.95p in the share price will mark a one year low point.

I do wonder just how low this share can sink and at what level would a predator be interested? Then again, is there anything worth breaking up beyond Mr Bird's seat at the table?

Given this from the high profile Tempus column in The Times it is hardly surprising IMO

Profits were inflated by a series of one-offs, including interest earned on customer balances. And convincing clients to entrust their capital with its fund managers again will be tough. Despite great efforts to diversify its income stream, asset management remains the main breadwinner.
One of the ugliest figures from the full-year results was £13.9 billion of net outflows. That’s hard to sugarcoat.
In Abrdn’s defence, Asia and emerging markets, the group’s speciality, have been particularly out of favour lately. But that doesn’t necessarily mean investors will be rushing back into its arms when market conditions change.
Only 42 per cent of Abrdn’s funds outperformed their benchmark over the past three years. Lousy track records stick in this competitive market. No wonder many of the group’s big clients are continuing to switch to cheaper passive strategies.
David McCann, analyst at Numis, reckons the only reason to hold the stock “would be if one were to assume that the status quo could meaningfully change and more radical action, such as a break-up of the group, were to happen”. At present, that seems unlikely.

The Chair gets the best part of half a million quid a year...but as he was a big advocate of Bird I doubt he's ready to rock the boat.Considering the cost of bringing in the new CFO though you do wonder if there is a bit of background planning going on.

He didn't get a salary increase per se.His salary stayed the same. His bonus % went up tho from 30% to 36% and he received some LTIP this year.I'll leave it to others to assess whether it makes any sense for the bonus to have gone UP and for a long term incentive plan allegedly linked to long term performance to have been paid...

Gave in to temptation and bought some purely on the back of St James Place woes this morning took some STJ and HL. Just to have some balance.

That money will have to go somewhere

I have an idea

When the share price goes up to 231 the price when the Bird Brain hatched his much lauded takeover of II only then would the board of directors from Flint downwards qualify for the proposed bonuses this year.

It is a kick in the teeth for those investors who have been hamstrung by the stupidity of the current crop of idiots intent on enriching themselves at the expense of the ordinary workers losing their jobs and us investors

For the life of me I simply can't understand why there hasn't been a boardroom revolt - The Bird's not fit for purpose as is reflected in the company share price.spud

Shows how volatile ABDN is - thanks Skinny.
The problem now is to determine the low point.

JJ: I also read that Bird received a very large salary increase. This is likely to really hack-off the staff remaining at Abrdn. These top guys must be SO out of touch you have to question if they really understand the needs and aspirations of their own customers many of whom are just ordinary, salaried folks aiming to save enough for a retirement that avoids penury.

Thanks for that info skinny gives me some idea but the maintained dividend means I might have to wait another couple of weeks.
Well at least until Lgen and Aviva produce their financials

Safer pickings there. Phoenix will be affected by Abdn so no go area for me for time being.

But it is tempting
