07/4/2011 12:52 | Good interview with Jonathan Milner CEO http://www.stockoped snippets "The real key to the business model is understanding that Abcam is in this wonderful position of having access to all the best antibodies in the world which none of our competitors have; once we've got access to all the best antibodies in the world we then put the data sheets on much faster than our competitors; so we have a much more data rich product which is then much more valuable to the scientists than our competitors' products." "there's so much opportunity, we are so well positioned" | rockafella2

09/3/2011 18:30 | I hold ABC but also hold Standard Life UK smaller companies. His list of other holdings is impressive and he has an enviable past record. Also have holding in Marlborough Special situations which has done very well. Great minds etc. | 4wingrove

08/3/2011 23:38 | megSta -- seems an unusual approach to buy Std Life smaller company closed end or open end fund in order to get exposure to Abcam. If you're keen on Abcam why not just buy the individual share? The contrary and more usual approach for PI's is to buy shares in companies that are major holdings of successful investment managers such as Harry Nimmo at Std Life so as to save on their management and admin fees. A middle road on UK small caps that I follow is to have direct holdings of shares I feel very comfortable with, such as Abcam, as well as holdings in closed end fund of Mr Nimmo and in some open end funds of other good managers such as Giles Hargreave (Marlborough's Special Situations, Micro Cap and UK leading companies). Direct holdings in Abcam also get IHT relief as it's AIM listed if that's a consideration. I don't know why Abcam has so few followers on this board when it is so popular with leading UK small cap investment managers such as the two mentioned above. | campbed
08/3/2011 17:50 | bought 'Standard Life UK Smaller Companies' in SIPP a while ago due to it holding ABC. I'm glad :) | megsta
08/3/2011 12:26 | Abcam half year results to 31 Dec released today look good considering points mentioned in my post 288 above. Good US growth especially on West Coast which justifies small new office there. Japan good - helped of course by strong currency and direct sales. UK still around 10% growth and picking up in Q3. Aborted acquisition cost not treated as exceptional but suggests looking to use cash for other growth streams to justify high P/E rating. | campbed
