01/4/2007 11:39 | I think the management have been quite clever here. On Thursday when I mentioned the notice I was sure the whole RNS was coming out. Topped up mid Friday afternoon. They might be trying to take the sting out of the weak punters, who were trying hard to ramp it Thursday. They wont want the share price running away and thus creating a 'disorderely market'. They must have an idea what the first couple of these 'majors' will want to pay for a 'small investment' and bearing in mind it has come up a long way, they won't want to pay way over the top. I agree with one other poster that the credbility factor for their products being alligned with the majors is immense however. £1 by the EGM would be a good level to let it settle at, and then onward and upward after that. Agree it would have been a different story last Friday if the rest of the news had come out, but that's good for those who are going to have patience with this. Good luck! | houseprices

01/4/2007 08:40 | the equity, investment is in the company..i.e the money goes to the company. if they bought in the market..the money would go to the market..not the company. the bigger the cash pile,sr have, the stronger the bargaining power they have, when negotiating contracts. | graham browns dad

01/4/2007 08:31 | Chicken Charlie, levelhead, Buzz thanks for the comments and I may be a little thick, but who pays who the backhander sorry the (small equity investment) but the below paragraph is a little confusing to me "It is a common feature of these deals for the major pharma company to make a small equity investment in the Group as well as taking a licence. At present the Board has no authority to issue shares in such circumstances without seeking specific shareholder approval and this could hinder negotiations. Consequently we are seeking shareholder approval to issue new shares equivalent to up to 10% of the current issued share capital to a third party (or parties). From AB if small equity investment is made to SPA why would there be a need to raise the amount of shares. Surely it would be better for the Major Pharma as a sign of goodwill to buy shares from the open market, thereby enhancing shareholder value plus that would be a positive vote of confidence im SPA. I'm not deramping - I am long but a little confused. I believe the motion will be carried as the Inst's who got in a 19p know SPA's potential and lets agree that it hasn't been bad so far. It is a win win win situation with very little downside. Monday will be a good day | alwaysbanking
