A highlight of the week was the webcast which took place on Monday afternoon. Featuring Michael Parsons Chairman Cardano Foundation, Charles Hoskinson CEO and Founder IOHK, Duncan Coutts Director of Engineering IOHK and host Jon Moss from Cardano Foundation. It was great to see that in total we welcomed over 5000 live viewers.

The webcast proved to be incredibly popular with the community submitting and voting questions within our official Cardano Forum.

Examples of the questions that were asked were:

I’m a developer at the concept phase of a blockchain project. I would like to eventually deploy on Cardano. How far away are we from developer tools? Is there anything I can do to prepare for prototyping and testing?

What are Cardano’s thoughts and strategy to stay relevant in this rapidly evolving industry? Is there no fear that other crypto projects may lean on Cardano’s already peer reviewed tech, and deliver a similar product faster, making Cardano obsolete?

We have a recording of the webcast just in case you missed it live or would like to watch it again. Please be aware that the recording does break up at points due to a technical issue with Crowdcast’s 3rd party hosting provider.

Dear Readers,

It has been another exciting week for the Foundation. We spent a number of days in Lisbon with our partners, IOHK, who are holding their annual global summit this week, with more than 100 people from various countries around the world in attendance. Many of the presentations focused on Cardano development, covering topics from the ongoing research into Ouroboros, the algorithm powering Cardano, to sidechains, which are currently being researched and aim to allow Cardano to become interoperable with other blockchains.

Representatives from Emurgo, the organisation responsible for commercial partnerships within the Cardano ecosystem also joined us.

We spent time looking at the project as a whole and discussing the future roadmap and how best to serve you, the community. We also took the opportunity to meet the individuals from the IOHK development team who had flown in from all over the world!

The first official Cardano Foundation webcast

“Largest Price Rises

The cryptocurrencies expected to rise the most in the remainder of January are Cardano (ADA), which is predicted to increase 433.17% on average, and Stellar Lumens, forecast to rise 126.32%.

Litecoin is the only cryptocurrency which is expected to decrease in value by February 1, falling by 2%.

For their end of 2018 forecasts, however, the panelists predict that Litecoin will recover with an increase in value of 24.14%.

Verge is the only coin out of all eight expected to decrease in price by the end of the year, with a drop of -37.99% forecast.

Cardano is forecast to rise the most over the whole year, rising to an average of $68.18 although the variance between forecasts is large (from $200.00 to $1.50).

Bitcoin is forecast to rise to an average of $33,000 by the end of 2018.”

DEBIT CARDS
Partnerships are being developed to integrate Ada with a cryptocurrency debit card. This will allow you to spend Ada just as you would do with any other currency, by using a Cardano debit card. Once you have applied for and obtained your card, you will be able to send Ada from your Daedalus wallet to load your Cardano debit card. The funds will automatically be converted into the local currency of your choice, for example Yen or Yuan. You can use the debit card to pay merchants as you normally would, whether it be with online retailers or in bricks and mortar stores.

LEDGER WALLET
In partnership with Metalair, a leading blockchain consultancy, support for Cardano is being added to Ledger Wallet storage devices. This means Cardano users will be able to hold their Ada offline, through the convenient and highly secure means of cold storage. The integration process has begun, and project timelines will be added soon.

INVESTMENT IN A BLOCKCHAIN PROJECT, SHANGHAI

Emurgo will invest in LiqEase, a blockchain project that digitizes assets in international business to business trade.

LiqEase is a blockhain based application for invoice financing. It is currently being built in Solidity, and plans to use the Cardano blockchain and the IELE Virtual Machine once Cardano CL is released.

THIS IS WHAT FORBES SAYS ABOUT CARDANO

Alexey Ivanov, fund manager at Polynom Crypto Capital in Moscow, thinks unknown Ethereum competitor Cardano Cryptocurrency will double this year. It's up over 500% since its ICO in late 2017. One coin goes for just $0.77.

"Once Cardano is added to a regulated platform, it can double," he says. Volume is next to nothing on that coin because the blockchain infrastructure company is still working on so-called "proof of stake" coding to verify digital transactions.

Ethereum is currently working out the kinks in its own system, to help remove bottlenecks. Ivanov thinks that's why the coin is up 17% on Tuesday.

David Herne, the American hedge fund manager behind the Specialized Research and Investment Group in Moscow, likes Waves, the Russian developed blockchain startup working with the Moscow Stock Exchange on a pilot program that would allow for trading in cryptos by qualified investors. That coin goes for $13.21 today and already has a billion dollar market cap.

Cardano is the first blockchain project to be built on peer reviewed academic research.
This level of scrutiny of the underlying technology is an industry first. Further to this, Cardano is unique in that it’s written in the Haskell coding language.
Haskell is considered to be one of the most secure programming languages, minimizing the number of errors and adding extremely robust security to the platform. This includes use of a technique called formal verification, which allows mathematical proof of the correctness of code.
Cardano is also designed to operate in regulated industries whilst protecting individual privacy. Applications built on Cardano can be individually customised to meet regulator requirements, but individuals can protect their privacy by choosing whether they want to enter regulated domains.
Cardano has a very strong academic heritage and is the first cryptocurrency to have one of its academic papers accepted at Crypto 2017, the leading cryptography conference. IOHK have research centres or partnerships with many of the top global academic institutions including the University of Edinburgh and the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
Cardano is a 3rd generation protocol, built with peer review and high assurance standards; backed by a very large international team that is very well funded.
