10:26AMRussia not invited to Swiss peace talksThe Swiss government this morning said that Russia is not invited to talks set to be held mid-June aimed at bringing peace between Moscow and Ukraine "at this stage"."Switzerland is convinced that Russia must be involved in this process," the Swiss government said in a statement. "A peace process without Russia is not possible."Switzerland has often shown openness to inviting Russia, but Moscow has repeatedly made it clear that it has no interest in participating in the first summit. As part of their argument, Russia has pointed towards Switzerland's adoption of EU sanctions against Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine and argued it therefore lacks credibility as a neutral broker.Switzerland in January said it would host a peace summit at the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. The invited delegations include members of the G7, G20, BRICS groups, the EU, international organisations and two religious representatives, the Swiss government said.... Russia has used a chemical weapon designed to choke Ukrainians as it pounds front-line towns and villages. The US accused Russia of dropping chloropicrin - a toxic, lung-damaging agent used in CS gas and deployed in the First World War - in violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention.Russia's use of chloropicrin was first revealed in a Telegraph investigation, which found that Russian was dropping gas grenades that had forced Ukrainian soldiers to change tactics. The US State Department said on Wednesday night that Russia used "riot control agents (tear gas) as a method of warfare in Ukraine, also in violation of the CWC".The Telegraph found in April that chemical grenades filled with gas were dropped in trenches. The soldiers attempting to flee were then attacked with shells and drones..... Daily Telegraph

China is providing moorage for a US-sanctioned Russian cargo ship implicated in North Korean arms transfers to Russia, according to satellite images.Britain's Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) think tank said the Russian vessel Angara, which since August 2023 has moved thousands of containers believed to contain North Korean munitions to Russian ports, has been anchored at a Chinese shipyard in eastern Zhejiang province since February. The ship's presence at the Chinese port underscores the challenges facing the United States and its allies as they try to choke off military and economic support for Russia....Daily Telegraph
