10/5/2024 21:22 | Beautiful day today, hazy sunshine and a warm 20c. Had a hit with the ball machine today, set it to sweep from side to side whilst firing balls, I was breathing hard at the end, great for the fitness though. Another disappointing week considering the bounce in the FTSE, finished the week +0.89%, but remain negative YTD at -1.01%. Have a nice weekend everyone. wllm :) | wllmherk

Another shorts and t-shirt day , slightly humid in the afternoon. Tried to sharpen the hedge cutter but couldn't find my best file for the job. Ordered another one. Lasagne , salad and a baguette tonight plus a bottle of red. Cinema tomorrow to see the highly recommended 'Civil War' Hike on sunday before the rain arrives in the afternoon. Good weekend everyone. | philanderer
10/5/2024 17:45 | 2/7 on the quiz, both guesses. I'm up +0.485% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.625%), up +2.82% on the week (FTSE100 +2.68%) and up +5.92% YTD (FTSE100 +9.06% and HIX +9.97%). Best rises: VOD +1.94%, IMI +1.62% and KGF +1.43%. Worst falls: BLND -1.83%, PHP -1.24% and SGRO -0.97%. Property let me down today. All the bank's fault. An hour's gardening this morning. That's plenty, I find. Enjoy the fine part of the weekend. Now off for fish and chips. DF | deanforester

10/5/2024 16:57 | Another decent day today giving me +3.17% on the week and taking my YTD to a far more acceptable +4.55% Assuming the boat is out of the water, I have a busy day working on that tomorrow, then it's the annual classic car New Forest Run on Sunday so I hope the weather holds! Enjoy your weekends. MrP | mrphil
10/5/2024 16:53 | Wish that was true Malcolm. Unfortunately my holding in CPI is 1/10th of that in ULTP. So a down day for me, -0.3%. Could have been worse I guess. A lot of blues not enough to cover the one big faller. Still a good week, YTD +6.6% Look forward to some decent dividends this month too, AV,MNG, CREI should add close to 0.7% at the month end. Not sure what I’ll do with it though. | dr biotech
10/5/2024 16:48 | More bkues than reds, Best risers MSHL,(don't know why but not complaining)CPI.FEVR Worst fallers ULTP,RR.AVON.ZOO.PLU Up 0.3% on day much to my suprise, | malcolm caton
10/5/2024 16:30 | Dr Bio CPI may help you out :-) UlLTP has hit me for about 0.6% to early to work figures out,AS i delt today and advfn portfolio doesnt reflect accurate day figures, | malcolm caton
10/5/2024 16:25 | US consumer sentiment slumps to 67. Below 85 is typical of recession. 67 is more like deep recession. It's been looking recessionary since Covid hit in 2020. Check out longer time frames. | aleman
10/5/2024 15:29 | Warmest day so far here today. Took the boat round for it's 11:00am lift but they were running late and couldn't get a lot of sense out of anyone so we decided to just put the boat in the way so they have no choice but to lift it or move it. Will have to pop down later to make sure it's out! Looking like another reasonable day for my lot so should be the best week for some considerable time. This months contribution will be in but I amend the figures to allow for that, although it amounts to less than 0.2% of the total added each month anyway. | mrphil
10/5/2024 13:43 | Magnificent 4/7 for me. Unfortunately heading for a red day, ULTP will cost me about 1% and blues elsewhere not enough. | dr biotech
10/5/2024 12:13 | Thanks Aleman, public spending rose 3.7% as you say what will it be under Labour a lot of lessons learned in the 70’s are going to be hard learned again by our current politicians. | m.j.g
10/5/2024 12:03 | Good morning. Misty start - now unconfortably warm and sticky in hazy sunshine. The British economy expanded 0.2% year-on-year in the first three months of 2024, rebounding from a 0.2% drop in the previous period, and beating forecasts of a flat reading, preliminary estimates showed. The services sector rose 0.3%, rebounding from a 0.2% fall and production went up 0.5%, also recovering from a 0.1% fall. Construction on the other hand, fell 0.7%, extending a 0.6% decline in the previous quarter. On the expenditure side, public spending rose 3.7% (vs 2.5% in Q4), but declines were seen for household consumption (-0.4% vs 0.3%), business investment (-0.6% vs 2.8%), exports (-2.1% vs -7.6%) and imports (-2.7% vs -1.5%). Compared to the previous quarter, the GDP in the UK expanded 0.6%, exiting recession. source: Office for National Statistics. If popn is up 0.8%, that's still -0.6% GDP per capita and that's with strong public sector spending growth which is stifling the private sector with taxes and generating negative numbers for its subsectors. This is not sustainable and it's hard to believe it's Tories doing it. What happens when Labour gets in? | aleman
10/5/2024 10:35 | Morning Quiz, complete failure nil. Blues in the ascendancy, with PLUS worst faller. Hazy high cloud masking the sun atm. | blueliner
10/5/2024 09:33 | 2/7 and both guessed. Sunny here, car having two new rear tyres fitted today. Hopefully a good reporting week on the markets! Unless the US ruin it later. | carpingtris |
