On evening of 19 March Petrobras board of directors announced that they will increase capital expenditure for the next five years from the previously announced $174bn to between $200bn and $220bn.

The company plans to complete a rights issue by the end of July.

Will Wellstream get any part of this increase?

yep I dont think theres an offer. The same newspaper had a unfounded rumour about nighthawk the week before. But hey what do I know..

a 10% rise with that newspaper coverage requires the Company to put out an RNS if there has been an approach

You can asume nothing, looking at the cyclical nature of the charts there is no need for an RNS as it could be argued that the share price is moving within normal parameters.

with an increase of more than 10% but no RNS we can assume there has been no recent approach

Apologies PeterBill

It was ENI (Saipems owner) that were interested in Technip I believe.

I think NKT were involved in the Flex supply for Ettrick.

As far as I know, Saipem dont have a flex manufacturing capability.

Technip Market Cap: 6.3B (euros)
Saipem Market Cap: 12.07B (euros)
Wellstream Market Cap: 571m (pounds)

I would have thought that Technip would be a bit too big for Saipem to be interested in.

Saipem are much more likely to go for a company like WSM as that would give them a easy way into the flexible lay market (deep water). I was involved in Nexen's Ettrick development in the north sea, completed by Saipem. They did lay all the flexis but I'm not sure if they manufactured them.

As far as I know Saipem are more into traditional (higher cost) pipelay so Wellstream will give them more of the flexible market.

Hope a bidding duel develops for WSM.

Saipem have history of sniffing around certain companies (Technip was the last rumour) then pulling back.

I'm a big fan of the DMail as the market report section always prints the worthwhile gossip. Trader talk or well connected, i don't know which.

That said, the last 3 big ones they have mentioned in the last week or so have been UKC,CNT and ARI.

All 3 made statements following the Mail piece/price movement.

Both UKC and ARI were in talks and CNT said no talks.

No talks come out quite quickly, the other one takes a bit more time.

Either way in for a punt with a stop loss set. 40% upside or a 5% loss!

on reflection this has the smell of a professional ramp - nonetheless WSM are certainly vulnerable at this stage

Not the best time to open a short, both the inde and mail reporting that they are in talks this am.
