Press Release 18 February 2008

Vp plc

Interim Management Statement

Vp plc, the equipment rental specialist, today advises that since the Interim
Results announcement on 27 November 2007, the performance of the business has
remained positive across the wide range of market sectors which it serves.

Activity levels have built up satisfactorily since the Christmas break, and
whilst we have seen no discernible impact from the problems in the wider
financial markets, the Group remains alert to any changes. USS and PTA,
acquired for £0.6m, and Able Safety, acquired for £0.75m, both in November 2007,
have integrated well into the Groundforce and Hire Station divisional businesses
respectively.

The Group continues to experience good demand for its products and services and
expects to be able to report earnings in line with market expectations, which
would represent significant growth on the previous year.

Disappointing reaction again to today's news, considering SDH's rise. Forward P/E is only 10. Could be very tempting to a buyer such as SDH at this rate.

What was that barrelboy?

For me I'm temporarily I hope underwater as must be quite a few 2007 holders.
But all lodged in ISA & there it will stay for the moment.

Comforting results IMO
edit: just noted Speedy hire on the up this morning

Nice quiet board this.
No reaction so far either here or to the share price of the rather excellent trading update. I like this bit:

"The Group continues to experience good demand for its products and services and
expects to be able to report earnings in line with market expectations, which
would represent significant growth on the previous year"

have jumped back in myself...far too low IMO....big sharehholding by trust makes it easier for someone to approach VP IMO....dealing with one entity not thousands

Brilliant interim figures and statement but a great reminder of why small cap stocks are so dangerous , a full 12 month advance from 300p to 440p is wiped out in 4weeks ...no downgrades just an overowned much loved stock by institutions. Plant hire is economically sensitive so I guess some people have jumped the gun and expect margins to come under pressure in 2008/09.

LONDON, November 22 (newratings.com) - Analysts at Panmure Gordon upgrade VP Plc (ticker: VP-GBX) from "hold" to "buy." The target price is set to 484.3p.

In a research note published this morning, the analysts mention that the upgrade in the rating follows the recent weakness in the company's share price. VP is likely to post its adjusted PBT for the interim year at £9.3 million, relative to £7.8 million in the previous year, the analysts say. VP's share price is well supported at the current levels, in view of the robust market fundamentals and progress in the recovery at Hire Station, Panmure Gordon adds.

Good luck

Hi QS9. You say you think someone might bid for VP but what chance would they stand as the family trust controls more than 50% of the shares not to mention the 6% which is in the employee share scheme?

I quote from the annual report: "During the year Mr Pilkington was interested in 23,684,876 shares registered in the name of Ackers P Investment Company, a company controlled by him together with Trusts which are connected persons for the purposes of Section 346 of the Companies Act 1985."

Given that level of share holding, the only way a bid could succeed would be if the family wanted it. It certainly could not succeed if it was hostile. From the investments they have made recently, I don't see any sign of them wanting to sell. Do you?

I'm in this one also. It's tucked away, won't be selling it.

Recent strength may an institution buying for the long term investment appeal. But, as you say, a bid is another possibility. :-)

Very pleased with this company. Performing well and appears very defensive especially in this rather scarey market. I guess people will always need bollards and piledrivers come rain or shine :)

Surely this is immune to takeover with the size of the Pilkington holding?
