So that's 6.37% of shares bought back altogether.

The last buyback is 3.73% of non-treasury shares.

Of course, the shares are not cancelled and can be re-used (eg for an acquisition). But this plus a c.5% yield shows how cheap this company is. Also shows confidence that cashflow is not any kind of issue.

Thanks be that VP are looking after more rail and tube lines now. I cannot help but feel with our management that train journeys will be the safer for it... and shareholders the better off too as a nice side benefit. :-)

The share price has dropped since Sept due to macro-economic worries but VP continues to show it can grow and generate cash.

went xd for 7.7p today yet still rose 6.7p on that excellent AGM statement. Also dropped very little in the recent past despite the market turbulence. A class act.

Edmund, if 2 years in the current environment isn't long term, don't know what is. Hard-pressed to stay in anything more than 6 months over the last 10 years.

deadly, broken through long term highs? What is long term? I recall selling out of these at over 350p in 2006 (and buying back in at the end of 2009 for just over 150p).

Not currently in, as I'm not sure what the summer & the slowdown in construction will bring, so find it hard to call right now. But will be interested if these drop under 200p again...

Yes, a dead bulletin board like some other shares of mine. But people quietly notice a company robustly doing its thing through the recession, flat earnings growth but strong cashflow, nice dividend while we wait for the upturn to kick in. Next stop £3 now the shares are breaking up through the resistance at 250.

This has been flying under the radar for a long time. But it's now broken through long term highs. Well managed and I'm happy to hold.

From recent results:

Revenues increased by 5% to GBP141.0 million (2010: GBP134.2 million)

* Profit before amortisation, exceptional items and tax of GBP13.8 million
(2010: GBP16.0 million)

* Basic earnings per share of 23.42 pence (2010: 24.68 pence)

* Proposed final dividend of 7.7 pence per share to maintain last year's
full year dividend of 10.8 pence

* Net debt reduced by GBP7.8 million to GBP40.5 million

* Solid balance sheet with strong operational cashflows

Reasonable statement. But "we believe a sustained economic recovery is likely to be some way off" is a bit like the SFR statement. I guess there is a fair wait here for recovered numbers, which is in itself a bit of a risk.

Unpleasant statement from SFR today.

Construction market is still very poor; but not sure how much that will impact VP, as only a part of their business is directly related to UK construction.

Ah. That explains a lot. Thanks for the info.

300p looks more like fair value. In a recovered market, don't see why we could not get back over 400p, too.

The glowing description in IC on December 17th has brought in buying and resulted in a mast, on which there is now a half-way flag. Next stop 300?

Noy convinced by ALU. Others in that sector also cheap imo, and dividend not covered there. I'm still concerned the economy is not right for that one.

Molins also around 8% yield, for example. But the pension deficit is a worry there (I am not invested).

8% yield at ALU ednumdshaw if you like high yields, ISA-able and the engineering side growing well - might be worth watching for their trading statement in early Jan imo.

Your opinion and well worth listenng to. Unless there's an RNS at or before 7 am
tomorrow your cold shower will have been well justified. Could there be someone with an interest in a high share price on Dec 31?
