Huge Ukraine rally over EU ties.

Protesters clashed with police outside the Cabinet of Ministers building
More than 100,000 people in the Ukrainian capital Kiev are protesting against the government's move to delay an association deal with the EU under pressure from Russia.

The protest is said to be the largest since the 2004 Orange Revolution, which overturned a rigged presidential poll.

Police fired tear gas as protesters tried to break through a cordon around government buildings.

A pro-government rally a few miles away attracted about 10,000 people.

Kiev police said they had fired tear gas after protesters threw a smoke grenade at officers in an attempt to break into the Cabinet of Ministers building.

Ukraine made the decision on the EU deal last week, saying it could not afford to break ties with Moscow. Russia is trying to bring Kiev into its own customs union.

Many protesters carried opposition or EU flags
Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the EU of blackmailing Ukraine to sign the deal during a summit in Lithuania next week.

People arrived at the rally, on European Square, with families and children, many holding banners with slogans like "I want to live in Europe" or "Ukraine is part of Europe".

"We want to be together with Europe," Volodymyr Mnikh, a 62-year-old retired chemist, told the Associated Press news agency.

"We want our children to have a future and not to be pressured by Russia."

Opposition leaders also joined the protests.

Several rallies in Kiev and other cities have been held over the last few days, but Sunday's has been the largest so far.

World heavyweight boxing champion Vitali Klitschko, who leads the Udar movement, addressed the rally in Kiev saying Ukrainians would not tolerate what President Yanukovich had done to the country's prospects for integrating with the EU.

"We will fight in order for the association agreement to be signed," he said.

Mr Klitschko arrived late at the protest after his flight was delayed due to weather conditions. He had flown back from the US after celebrating his daughter's birthday.

Gas disputes

On Friday, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said the decision not to sign the deal was motivated solely by economics and was "tactical". He said it did not alter Ukraine's overall development strategy.

The Ukrainian government says it is now looking into setting up a joint commission to promote ties between Ukraine, Russia and the EU.

Ukraine depends on imports of Russian gas, but recently the supplier, Gazprom, complained that Ukraine had fallen behind in payments. Pipelines transiting Ukraine pump Russian gas to many EU member states.

In 2009 Russia cut off gas supplies to Ukraine in a dispute about prices, causing fuel shortages across Europe in the middle of winter.

Russia has a customs union with two other former Soviet republics - Belarus and Kazakhstan - and has been urging Ukraine to join it.

A free trade agreement with the EU would mean Ukraine adopting different trade rules.

Kiev's decision on Thursday prompted EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele to cancel a trip to Ukraine.

It had been planned for the run-up to the key "Eastern Partnership" summit between the EU and several ex-Soviet states, which will be held in Vilnius, Lithuania, on 28 and 29 November.

Latest on JKX fracced Ukrainian well (15th Nov Q3 results).

'Rudenkovskoye R-103 Frac:

The 10-stage multi-frac was successfully completed in early September. There was one more stage than originally planned to compensate for a poor frac early in the operation. In total, 670 tons of proppant were injected along with 34,000 bbl of frac fluid. Maximum frac reach was over 240 metres and the propped width ranged from 3 to 6 millimetres. Initial gas flow from the reservoir exceeded 6 MMcfd but this has since levelled off at approximately 3 MMcfd at the end of the period with almost 14,000 bbl of frac fluid being recovered to date (more than 40% of the total injected). The well continues to clean up and there are now signs that the frac fluid volume is decreasing. . Installation of a smaller diameter velocity string within the production tubing is planned to maximise remaining fluid recovery and optimise gas production going forward. We expect that at least another month of clean-up of the well is required.'

I suspect that the delay on the fraccing is due to the availability of external contractors, it can't be a cash issue with $25m+ in the bank.
It would be nice to be a better informed either way!

Do we assume from the deafening silence that RPT haven't started the fraccing yet?

It can't be much longer before reaching TD & testing on SV-59, probably the next RNS.

RPT is looking increasingly grim. Pointless hanging on in here with SO many other stocks taking off on AIM and money being made hand over fist.

FML looks about to take off...overdue financial & op update due, & ex CEO forecasting mkt cap to increase by factor of 8 by end of next year!

Interesting interview from this week with Alexy Timofeev about Smart's O&G assets. Covers the past year, future development, A1's shareholing etc.
You need to put it through a translator.

They want to double production next year (includes other O&G investment),
'these rates can be achieved at the expense of its own drilling and new purchases or through joint venture, that is, combing assets with other mining companies'

Thanks Jam, very interesting I was looking for some info on fraccing.
RPT are operating at around double the depth as in the document so I would increase those timescales significantly.

Brief article for those that have an interest

hxxp://www.encana.com/pdf/communities/usa/wellcompletionandhydraulicfracturing(DJ).pdf

How long does it take to complete a well?
On average, it takes two days to frac each well and Encana USA typically drills 4-8 wells per pad. A 15-man crew generally works from dawn to dusk, 5 to 6 days per week. From the time the drilling rig leaves the site to the point when the wells are completed and placed "on production," approximately 55 days

Latest on JKX first Ukraine fracced well.

3MMCF gas = 547 boepd
25 barrels of condensate = 23 boepd
So current total production from well 570 boepd
Not massive but a lot better than they were previously getting.

From Concorde Capital Ukraine:

Daily News

JKX increases; Regal, Serinus decrease output in Ukraine in September October 16 2013

Ukraine increased natural gas output 3.3% yoy to 15.61 bcm in 9M13, Energobiznes reported on October 15, citing preliminary data from Ukraine's Energy Ministry. State gas companies produced 13.94 bcm of gas in 9M13, or a 2.5% yoy increase. In September alone, Ukraine produced 1.73 bcm of natural gas, or a 6.3% yoy increase.

Among the traded companies with assets in Ukraine, only JKX Oil & Gas (JKX LN) showed an increase in hydrocarbons output in September, we estimate. JKX's Ukrainian subsidiary produced nearly 20.0 mcm of natural gas (+3.3% m/m) and 5.12 kt of oil and gas condensate (-6.4% m/m) in September, implying total output of 5,160 boepd (+4.1% m/m in daily terms).

KUB-Gaz, a Ukrainian subsidiary of Serinus Energy (SEN PW), showed a 1.0% m/m decline in hydrocarbon output to 4,760 boepd, we estimate. Regal Pertoleum (RPT LN) decreased its output 8.3% m/m to an estimated 1,270 boepd, with average daily gas production declining 9% m/m to 179,000 cubic meters per day.

For 9M13, JKX Oil & Gas decreased gas output in Ukraine 30.1% yoy to 169 mcm, KUB-Gas increased gas output 27.5% yoy to 204 mcm and Regal Petroleum showed a 4.9% yoy decline in gas output to 54 mcm.

I agree Jam, fraccing is make or break.
Current share price is about right for current production level, prices etc.
Without some success on the production front the share price will fall with falling production as current well outputs drop off.
In the long term prices are likely to come under pressure with Shell & Chevron increasing supply & eventually a deal with Russia on lower import prices.
Basically Energees need to get on with it!

I would much prefer to see a rise supported by some decent production numbers.
Could do with some time line on the proposed fraccing - the results of which imo
will be the making or stagnation of the company.
