A sad end but no surprise in this market.

Well you can see the logic in the deal, but obviously it is a disappointment as its not cash, its 60p and its BTG.

"price of 60
pence for each Protherics Share"

Look where the price went - 58p!
Look which name was touted - BTG
Such a clear flouting of insider rules.
Will the FSA look into it? Will they f!

Famous last words.

Still banks cannot keep going to the wall at the current rate
and maybe there will be news tomorrow .....

Interesting to see the share price hold up while this market capitulates.

Program on Radio 4 last evening discussing use of anti alpha TNF drugs ( anti-inflammatories) in treatment of heart disease and cancers, in conjuction with 'traditional' treatments for those conditions.
Is there anything in PTI technology, which might strike a chord in this area - angiotensin or cytofab interfering with the bodies panic mechanisms?

Expert comment welcomed.

All these companies going bust are those with funding problems. If you need to raise cash to keep your company going in this market then you are in deep sh*t. One thing about PTI is that it does not need to raise cash at the moment and it has an increasing income stream going into the future. So long as it is able to keep expenditure in line with this then it shouldn't have a problem. As long as the board have enough faith in the pipeline we should see any silly bids rejected outright. Keep the faith. HT.

Superbarnet- this market worries me that we could be sold at a knock down price and the hope of #1.00 diminshes daily.

I imagine nobody is wanting to commit any serious expenditure in this nervous trading.

Mmm, sure a deal could still be the outcome from the approches by
a number of parties.

Its just the longer we go on without news the more likely that some
nervous investors will be to sell or pare down their holdings.

The advice is never try to catch a falling knife. Increased volume will be a sign of some news.

Ouch, drop and into auction. Would normally have said news leaking but could just be stop losses triggering. If the former then probably another RNS from directors later.

10% drop today so far seems ominous!!

Volume is very low tho and the share price seems to react to small trades. Implies to me that no one knows whats going on and that the odd 'bird in the hand rather than the bush' shareholder is taking profits.

At least the prolonged silence implies the directors think the current talks are worth having.

The current weakness appears to suggest action is not imminent.

I certainly wouldnt be happy with a cash offer near the current share price In that instance I'd much prefer talks were called off, take the short term share price hit and see what the result of the cytofab phase II trial brings.

No matter what happens we're a lot better of than we were a month ago. Multiple bidders gives independent confirmation that there is a bright future for PTI.

WAY THINGS ARE GOING THE OUTCOME IS ALREADY KNOWN......THE WAIT AND THE CONJECTURE IS VERY DEPRESSING, BUT THINK 35-40P WILL BE THE FALLBACK PRICE IF NO BIDS ARE FORTHCOMING.

The FSA would have something to say about such a scheme.
My bet is on AZN and GSK taking a look at the underlying technology behind CytoFab, DigiFab and Angiotensin as part of their longer term protein fragment portfolios and wanting to get their hands on both the science/products and manufacturing expertise.
If it is one or more of the majors, I would expect to see a real auction going on, behind the scenes - the valuation being preared by to IP lawyer could be crucial - cancer portfolio notwithstanding.
If all goes well over the coming three months I would hope for an outcome significantly higher than today's share price - with £1.50 not being out of court.

What about this for an idea.

The board have made it all up so AZ have had to show if they are interested, now the board know if AZ are seious about CYTOFAB the share price has had a bit of a spike and all is good.

I know it's a long shot but in the few years i've had shares a board doing this would not supprise me at all.

My theory has always been that it was probably more than one bidder - in line with the RNS. Just potentially initiated by a cheeky bidder.
I'd call two "a number of parties", but who knows hey!?

Doc

In my book "a number of parties" is more than two....but at least you have
raised it from your "cheeky approach" theory, which implied only one bidder.
